Cost of fertiliser!!!

hi everyone. Can those of you who buy it please tell me how much you are paying this year? OH has just been to get ours for our hay fields and it was £425 for 1.2 ton inc vat! Can't believe it's still so expensive when the cost of transporting it has come down due to fuel being cheaper. Sorry just having a bit of a melt down! Please tell me you're all paying around this price or are we being ripped off? It's 20-10-10 btw! Thanksi!
 
I have literally come in the door from collecting two 600kgs bags of 20:10:10 and it cost me £408.96 including VAT. I'd expect to pay a bit more if it was delivered.

Isn't fertiliser made from oil? If so, it should get cheaper. But I suppose they have to sell off what is in store and was purchased at the old price first!

We are in cheshire as o it seems we have paid a bit more than you for exactly the same type of fertiliser. We also collected it as it's local. Not sure if it's oil based but in the farmers guardian this week there was an article about how the cost should have come down due to cost of transport? We used to pay £70 a ton for it a few years ago!

Get friendly with your local farmer, ask if you can add your fert to his order. You may get it cheaper and if he was willing to bill it out as straw or haylage it would be vat free.
 
Is it legal to buy/sell fertiliser privately? I've a feeling it isn't because of terrorism worries. Mixed with sugar, it can do explosive things! Same with red diesel. Of course, everything is legal if they don't catch you! :D

You are thinking of Nitram or 33% nitrogen, you can collect small amounts in a fertiliser spreader from the depot.
 
I have no idea what it contains but a friend purchased tobacco waste. It was so cheap and so good a farmer friend decided to use it too. I have not used it myself as I am not sure of the content.
 
the cost of fuel may well have come down but the demand for haulage is currently very high especially that with hiab offload so the price of haulage in general remains high
