Cost of HGV license

ummm A 7.5 ton lorry isnt an HGV......

It does need an extra test for post 1997 licence holders but it is not HGV vehicle (HGVs are over 7,5T and you have to have all sorts of stuff for those, designated approved yard to keep them, maintained every 6 weeks, tachograph being used, medical for you etc etc etc)

How much (roughly) am I looking at for an intensive course to enable me to drive a 7.5t lorry?

thanks

Post your county and I'll give you a recommendation or two

================================================

HGVs are no more !! - well, they are often called that by the oldies in the UK but no other country has ever called them that

The term is LGV and includes all vehicles with less than 10 total seats weighing over 3.5 tonnes GVW/MAM

PS - The old HGV system did include vehicles between 3.5 and 7.5 tonnes - I think they were HGV class 4

The old HGV and the newer LGV are not able to be compared with each other

HGV class 3 = any rigid lorry with 2 axles + trailer/drag
HGV class 2 = any rigid lorry with more than 2 axles + trailer/drag
HGV class 1 = articulated

LGV C1 = rigid lorry 3.5 to 7.5 tonnes with max trailer 750 kgs
LGV C1+E as above but with trailer over 750kgs (max 12 tonnes total weight)
LGV C = any rigid lorry - no upper weight limit with max trailer 750 kgs
LGV C+E = any rigid lorry with any trailer
An artic unit is a rigid lorry

Under the old HGV system a lorry with a large trailer (wagon & drag) could be driven on a class 2 or 3 but under the LGV that would be C+E
Many older lorry drivers have a C+E with a restriction code only allowing them to drive W&Ds but not artics ..... weird
Also under the old HGV system a class 2 or 3 could not drive an artic unit

Here endeth todays trivia on the HGV/LGV :D

See my last post re the HGV/LGV terminology

No approved yard required for PRIVATE LGV
No regular maintenence required for any PRIVATE LGV
Medicals required for ALL LGVs which is anything over 3.5 tonnes (pre 1997 C1 & C1+E excepted)
Tacho only needed for any PRIVATE LGV over 7.5 tonnes
