Cost of MRI scan

the first one we had done about 8 years ago at the AHT and involved a general anaesthetic it was about £2,000. About 3 years ago had one done at Liphook which was "standing", and I think it was £1,000. That may have included a couple of other xrays etc.

Took my horse to have his MRI done in November. Cost £1,208 at the Royal Veterinary College. Part of this cost was to have his shoes put back on by their farrier - £29. I was not insured so had to pay for everything - which is why I believe they kept their costs down. Hope this helps.

Thanks for responses. Seems to vary a little. Spoke to my vet on Friday and he said he thought it would be about £800.00.

Will investigate further.

Yes, £800 was what I was quoted originally but when you get the final bill they add so many things to the actual cost of the scan. The horse has to be sedated, the shoes have to come off because they have to Xray the feet to make sure all the nails/metal have been removed otherwise it interferes with the MRI, the shoes go back on via the farrier (if that's what you want) and then there is VAT.
