Hi,

I have been trying to find someone to pet sit for my puppy, cat and two horses for two days. Most quotes have come in somewhere between £200 and £250 for the weekend. Is this normal?

Am I to expect to pay between £700 and £875 for a week if I want to go away for that long?

Seems rather expensive to me (possibly like I'm in the wrong job!)

where I work boarding would be £20 a day for the dog, £8 a visit for the cats and then I would expect to pay a freelance groom about £15 per horse per day if stabled. £10 if not.

You have to consider we have insurance to pay, vehicles to keep road worth and on the road (tax, fuel insurance) and make a profit on top to make it a viable business. Not cheap job to do.

I would think that your location of London might put the price up.
I pay £45 per day for someone to live in and look after 4 horses 2 dogs and 2 cats .They are allowed to leave the house for around 3 hours at any time if you want them to stay 24/7 it is £55 .
I find that the £45 sit works fine as I do leave my dogs for short periods when riding and shopping visiting friends for coffee etc.
It is an agency they cover the following areas
Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Northamptonshire and Warwickshire so we can cover all areas of Wales and England including Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Derbyshire, East Midlands, Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Herefordshire, Hertfordshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, London, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Suffolk, Surrey, Warwickshire, West Midlands and Wiltshire.
They are
Preseli Anima Home Care this is their website www.petsitterservices.co.uk they seem to cover London
Can't recommend them highly enough have used them for 5 years for 7 or 8 breaks a year.

if you dont actually need anyone to live in then consider separate people for the job, someone locally here will check my two cats for £8, charge another £8 per visit time to check and walk the dog and a freelance groom would charge £40 per day to check the two ponies twice a day and muck out once a day (similar to LR above)

Can I recommend that you like at a site called My Dog Buddy ? Last time I left my two in kennels for a week it was £500 and they were miserable. I have, through this site, found a well quailifed, lovely lady who take them into here home for £25 per day (for the two) and they LOVE it. They get loads of walks and live with the family.

You put in your post code, and the site tells you who is nearby and what services they offer - self explanitory really, once you go on there. I interviewed three or four before I chose the wonderful Leigh.

I did check into someone to do the horses and dogs separately before I found Preseli animal care and it worked out at £30 a day for the horses and £40 a day for the dogs to be home boarded with someone and that didn't take into account the cats!
I was so thankfully to find Preseli animal care as it is much nicer for someone to be in the house and on site and for £45 a day a lot cheaper as well.
I can text or e mail anytime of day and get an almost immediate reply and I am updated on the animals whenever I want .So much better to deal with one person.
They also have a back up service in place in case of any emergency with the sitter or their family (immediately another sitter would be put on site)
