Cost of post and rail, please?

I am hoping to buy a property which will need the fields fencing. Could anyone tell me how much reasonable quality 3-rail post & rail would be per 100m? What could I do to make it dog-proof that wouldn't be too expensive but which would also look fairly presentable?

All help appreciated!
 
I had a run of 75m post and 4 rail done three years ago for 3.5k but that included a gate & gateway not in the fence line and 4.5k for around 175m that also included a gate.

Eta you could add mains powered electric between the fence rails if you want to dog proof easily
 
Is there a sort of stock fence a bit like sheep netting but better that would be horse proof? Then that would also be dog proof, wouldn't it? I think it can look fairly tidy if it's strained properly?

That's a flippin' good price - I bet the posts were hammered in rather than dug out or augered?

I'm not primarily an agricultural fencer but have done a lot of three & four rail Horseyfences - even half a mile of double half round rail over tensioned chain link which is fully dog proof - all at best Buckinghamshire gin & tonic belt prices! Haha. But then again you get what you pay for - some of my Jackfence is still good forty years on.

i thought it was too, much less than i expected and cheaper than the other quotes by a long way (i have seen his work btw and its a good standard).
thats using a post knocker :)

Still a fair amount of work for the money but country rate and all that - I've done some jobs at stupid prices years ago and more difficult than most would take on. A bit wiser now. Knocked posts can heave a bit in some soil but are good enough usually.

£12-15 metre is the standard contract price for 3 rail motorway spec fencing Knocked in post are more secure than dug or augered contrary to somes views. Did 8kms for a friend 15yrs ago not one post has moved!
 
Thank you - that's very helpful, so I now know roughly what to budget :) Assuming I get the house! Offer has been put in, so now it's a waiting game :)
 
We use larch posts and a minimum of 7 feet tall. Some have been in over 20 years...our fencing man costs double what others charge but definitely worth the extra. Also all the rails are screwed in not nailed so easy to replace.
