I'm just wondering what you all pay as an average for professional prints of events you have competed at?

I don't get out much so don't get photographed, but did last week. There are around 8 pictures I'd love to buy but they are just so expensive :( Now, please don't get me wrong. This is not a moan! I fully appreciate the cost of equipment, time, skill, effort etc and the day in question the weather was truly hideous, so I am not begrudging them the fact they earned it, it's just that after transport and entries, there is no money left for prints unless I flash my plastic at it. (Which I know is my problem) The prints would only end up in my spare room so cant warrant the cost.

Oh well, may just buy the Facebook sized versions :)

On average pay about £10 a print. Have paid more and have paid less. Some do offers if buying more than 1. I'm a sucker for a photo there's not many shows where I go and not come back with one :) Photo money is added in for outing expenditure lol

See, I did add photo costs in, but they are more than double the cost I expected :(

I want a 12 x 8 print of my pony looking gorgeous in our in hand class, but it's £22.50 :(

Email the photographer and see if you can purchase a digital copy.
That way, you can get your own prints and they are cheaper at,say, Tesco than to purchase direct.
I recently paid £8 for the digital copy and got a variety of prints done costing between £1.50-£3 depending in the size.

I'd say £22.50 for a mounted 12x8 is about right to be honest. As someone's said, if they'll let you have a digital copy that might be cheaper, but it might not be as good resolution as the printed copy and therefore the print wouldn't be as good quality. The photographer will use a very hi res version to make his print. If it were me, I'd go with the photographers version if its a one off treat. (I say all this from the standpoint of someone who loves photography and does a fair bit of it with good equipment, and i'm therefore fussy about print quality).

The digital prints are very expensive too. I think I'll go with a montage and a print and put it on my plastic. If it was to go on display I would happily pay, but to go on my spare room wall seems a very expensive treat! I'll man up and buy them :D

Yay, buy them!

You know, what you are doing now will mean a LOT later on. I am slowing down and treasure my photos from when I was doing "bigger" stuff.

I just bought a FAB photo from Le Trec, because I am so proud of us for completing the long ride. I also bought BD regionals, we did rubbish if you look at scores, but the photo shows the rain (stair-rods) and I am proud of him for going so well, and indeed for qualifying in the first place.

I buy them and file them, and scan them, and put them in a photo frame, and email them, and facebook them...... I look back on them. In fact I keep some in my lorry for those times when I walk a course and think "can we?", and I look at the photo evidence - "well we have before", and it makes me feel positive.

I think it'll all dependent on the event, BE charge far more than unaffiliated. Some are astronomical!!! I wont pay over £15 for a photo or £5 for digital print.
