Those of you who have a 3.5t lorry, can you give me a realistic idea what it costs to keep and run one of these? Tax, insurance, MOT, servicing, that sort of thing. But also money spent on unexpected repairs/maintenance etc.

I don't currently have my own transportation, and I am weighing my options (buy, hire to self drive, hire horse transport) and would like to get a better idea of what "hidden" costs I might be missing.
Thanks!

I have a vauxhall movano

Tax is roughly £260 for the year
Insurance and breakdown cover is £600ish but i am 22 and have 0 years no claims, not sure how old you are but it goes down drastically after you are 25 it seems
Think MOT was around £50.00, haven't had it serviced yet so can't help with that one

Mine is really cheap to run, £30.00 diesel will go for miles :)

Tax £260 ish
Insurance £160
Breakdown cover £100
MOT £52 but not all garages can do them, I travelled 15 miles for the MOT

Me and my brother tackled most of the service and I paid £25 for the bits we couldn't do

I bought an old box and its cost £800 ish in expected repairs plus about £500 to finish internally

I put £50 diesel in it not long ago and have done about 70 miles so far with plenty left in the tank (2.5l engine)

road tax £240 per annum
insurance £197 " "
breakdown cover £85 " "
MOT it's a class 7 so £45
mines an older wagon but still uses less diesel than my 4x4 + trailer :)

I worked out that mine cost £1000 a year approx, in terms of tax, breakdown cover, MOT and the odd repair, and insurance.

I have a Citroen Relay. MOTed it yesterday - a few bits and bobs, came to £100. Fully comp insurance (I'm 45 with a million years NCD) including breakdown £355. Tax about £230. Haven't serviced it yet but it's dead cheap to run fuel-wise.
