Has anyone had recent experience with this surgery and can give me an idea of the costs please? I am awaiting the results of a blood test. I had a horse 20 years ago and his surgery cost £500, I am guessing it has gone up since then

I have tried to give my boy agnus castus to improve his behaviour but he just refuses to eat it no matter how little I put in. I have read that you can use bromide, has anyone done here done this??

It is so frustrating he was my perfect horse until he went all "Gods gift to women"

I have a friend who bought a cryptorchid colt ie one testicale hadn't descended, and I was quoted £1500 from Rossdales Newmarket, and £750 from the RVC to castrate him.

Presumably the latter is cheaper as they let the students have a ferret around inside :)

Fortunatley for her we waited for a bit and the 2nd descended around 18 months, at which point we whipped them off before one disappeared again. Presumably yours is too old now for them to descend?

I had my horse operated on for rig surgery about 3 years ago, and it cost £750 at the rvc. I did get it cheaper becuase I allowed students to watch it, was meant to be about £1000 I was told.

My lad is rising 7 so yes I think it would have made an appearance by now if it was ever going to:(
If he is positive I think I will have to find somewhere with students ! I was scared I wondered be able to afford the op (not that I have £750!) and he is such a lovely boy when he is not letting his hormones do the thinking!
Thanks for the replies.

I had my welsh D cryptorchid colt (whos rising 3) done a few weeks ago. I shopped around i got quotes up to £2k!! i had the op done at fyrnwy, the total bill came to £612 which included his booster tetnus and 1 night livery.
I don't live in baschurch, infact about an hour away so had to pay for transport costs too which was £170.
So altogether around £780 including my transport, still cheaper than the average price of around £850 - £1500
:)

I have a cryptorchid dartmoor who is now 13. We were quoted £1500 to £2000, with 3-6mths box rest (which he would have hated). We decided to leave him be, and he's had a happy life as a quiet, biddable little kids pony. He's been ridden out with mares, done pony-rides at the local fete, hunted and driven. The kids fight to 'bagsy' him, as he's such fun, and reliable - and he'll take a grown up too :o)

It's hard to remember now, but he was a little sod as a youngster.
