Any ideas of costing etc?

Many Thanks

My son is just about to do his - the training course he's doing is £895 (inc VAT) - 4 days and test on the 5th day. He's already done theory and hazard perception tests and bought the training CD to perpare for them so total wasn't far short of 1k - just hope he passes now!

I did mine this summer. If I remember rightly, the hazard perception was ~£15 and theory ~£35. I'm not sure how much the driving part cost. So if you don't want lessons then about £50 + whatever the driving bit is :-)

...However, I did an intensive course that cost ~£800. They provided on-line facilities to help pass the theory and Hazard perception test and a 4 day driving course.

I passed first time with only 3 minor faults. I'm sure it would have been very different if I hadn't had the lessons!

I was a LGV instructor from 2005 to 2008 and am still in touch with LGV training schools

WARNING - do not go to a broker - NEVER part with any money untill you have visited the LGV training school of your choice

There is a LGV site which has an open to the public newbies forum for you to look at and here is the link to the LGV TRAINING TIPS thread on that site

The username of the member who compiled that thread seems familiar ;) but the content is from many members :)

The medical & theory costs are exactly the same for LGV C1 and C and the practical training costs are virtually the same so go for C and not C1

Medical - NEVER pay more than about £50 for it - if you do then you have been ripped off - you do not have to do it with your own GP

A grand will usually see you ok for a C course without any retests but there are also the medical and theory costs on top of that so I recommend that you have the best part of two grand available just in case you need it

This ^^ exactly how I did mine x

I did my c1 license for £800 including the medical/theory/test/course. If you are only doing c1 and not the bigger hgv it may be cheaper as many of the companies, like mine did, offer it in a small van thats over 3.5 tonne, and they are generally cheaper by the hour. I did it in a 5 tonne merc van and it was great as easier to place on the road at all the junctions!!
