Cost of tickets for XC day...!

It’s a lot cheaper to go abroad! £40 for a weeks tickets at European champs.
VIP tickets for worlds were £120. This is what we have taken to doing, going on holiday to nice places and watching the eventing as well. I hate xc day at Badminton, though I did enjoy it working for the broadcasting company as access all areas. Sadly no longer get that gig!
 
Well I've bought tickets for XC day regardless ? hey ho! Apparently they aren't doing any tickets on the day again, all in advance I guess to control numbers. Might also do a dressage day so I can see the shops in relative peace...shops are mobbed on XC day!
 
It is interesting that they've opted to control numbers again, I wonder what is driving that. Last year I thought they might just be saying they were but they did.

Insurance, resources on local policing, locals being uppity about traffic...

I'm glad they are, it was so busy last year I think its sensible to control numbers it also made it much quicker to get through the gates! Basically no tickets on the day, better WiFi (Vodafone mainly, they refused a mast last year), increased camping areas and a change to the course layout with more hills!

You could still do tickets in advance only and not have a max limit though, which makes me think there are other reasons
 
The local authority limits numbers on what they licence. Badminton has always been a bit of a free for all so guessing now they are just making life easier by getting people to pay in advance. Also means no cash handling on gates, money in bank account in advance and clear idea on numbers if need to increase anything.
 
We have bought a camping site, two extra full time tickets and a extra car pass. It came to a staggering 548 pounds ?. I do think the 5 day tickets are a reasonable price for 5 days entertainment at 95 pounds. It gets expensive with 4 people going though!!!

I agree the 5 day ones are better value!

The tv coverage of the XC is much more 'real' if you have previously walked the course in person.

Burghley XC is altogether more civilised, in fact all of the Burghley event is more civilised than Badminton.

I would love to go to Burghley but for me it means an overnight stay.

But, I have been going to Badminton since spectators were allowed around the stables!
So for a long time. But we stopped going on Cross Country day because of the crowds.
We went on a dressage day, did the shops and walked the course and watched some dressage and then watched cross country on TV. I went on a cross country day with the Pony Club one year and it reminded me of why I had stopped going.

As for prices, I think we have been spoilt - how much is it to go to a football or rugby match
 
I have looked up football tickets - it was pretty difficult, they seem to be very coy about the prices.

However, for Liverpool playing a premier league game the most expensive seat is £59.00, prices go down through the £40s and a junior is £9.00, with I think various other discounts for seniors, etc.

So although it seems a lot, Badminton isn't out of line for a first class sporting event.
