Just out of interest. At the moment am semi-seriously considering moving over to somewhere in South Wales from North Somerset (most likely somewhere in Glamorgan, did consider Newport as well... basically anywhere there's work as well as a place to keep the ned would be ideal... any ideas?!).
I'm trying to get a general idea of costs, I can't tow a trailer so that's out the window. Is there a company that transports horses? If so, has anyone moved their horse from one area of the country to another and what sort of price did you get (if you don't mind my asking).
 
You can hire a small box for around £100/day and I am sure the guy that does transporting round here charges £1/mile (or something very similar).
 
I pay for transport to go to shows. It generally costs me £80 for a 40 mile ish round trip. To give you a rough idea.
 
if you start at about a pound a mile from horse transporter leaving their place, picking your horse up, dropping it off and getting home, that's a start. there are loads of prof horse transporters advertising in H&H. sometimes you can get shared journeys which reduces costs.

Try Paul Haliwell Westdown stud he does transport. Don't have the number to hand google the stud. Good luck
 
Been a year or two now since i've done it, but usually can get horses taken up or down the country (roughly 400 miles) for about £350 for a single, less if more than one.
 
I also used to live in North Somerset (near the airport) and I used P & L Luck to transport my two large lads to North Devon, I got in on a shared load and they charged me £150 for the two of them, which was very reasonable! That was using their 18 tonner HGV too, so they had a really smooth ride.

Thoroughly recommend them, Lynette was very helpful and made sure that my big lad who has DJD was given extra room as he has problems balancing and he travelled beautifully. http://www.equinefreight.co.uk/

Would also recommend Louise Oxland who I've used several times, she's based in Somerset and has a two horse racehorse type lorry and I think she has now got her new HGV. I pay half of that between me and a friend, and there isn't much choice! I only compete once every few months or so, then compete at venue within hacking distance rest of time.
