Wondering if anyone on here has had a horse hobdayed? It’s the op to cut excess tissue from the flap at the top of the wind pipe. Wondering how much the operation would cost. Has anyone here had it done?

Friends horse is at Rossadales at the moment having had a tie back and it's vocal chords trimmed (or lazered...removed anyway). Was done under standing and quote was for about £4500.

I had my ID x cob done November 4 years ago... he went into Nantwich Vet hospital, he had a general, and was in for 3 days. He had tieback /Hob day op done.. he recovered well, and performed much better now... the cost was £1900 and £89 for first consultation, where he was lunged and scoped. That was in Cheshire. Costs will depend on the area, but do ask about and take on board recommendations

Oh dear that’s terribly expensive. The thing is the horse isn’t so bad, there’s just a bit of a growl type noise initially when you ride. It doesn’t interfere at all with his performance, has lots of hunting and jumping done and is foot perfect. I just really thought of the op in terms of resale in case the noise puts buyers off. But that kind of outlay seems crazy when it really doesn’t interfere with him.

I think the mention of him having had the op would put buyers off as much as the noise. I wouldnt bother, it doesnt usually affect their pergormance unless its racing or very high level jumping/eventing.

I've had two roarers. Neither could gallop. I sold one but had the other operated on and he was a different horse with a tie back, it changed his whole outlook on life, he became much less stressy. My vet told me that's not unusual. .

I wouldn't have yours done, by the sound of it he's nowhere near bad enough to spend that much.

Thanks to all for replying. I definitely won’t be going ahead with an op as it’s not infringing at all on performance. I guess some would see it as a type of blemish but he’s a super horse so he can stay as he is - growling and all!
