I recently received a job offer in British Columbia, I have quite a bit of money saved up, around £8,000 and I'm wondering if this will be enough to take my mare with me she's 16.2 ex racer, only 7 and is very very calm and collected, I've moved her from Ireland to wales before and she was a dream so I'm sure she can manage the move but do i have enough money and i dont know ANY companies that'd fly a horse so looking for names and ideally prices

I have no idea what it will cost but expect it to be around £8-10k, friends of mine moved to the US many years ago and took their horse with them, the only suggestion I would make is to leave the horse here in the hands of a good yard, who know the arrangements you have made, while you settle in also just in case you have second thoughts, remember to factor in what will happen if you come back in a few years, my friends left their horse with me for 6 weeks and I took him to the airport, when they returned from the US they gifted him to a good friend over there as they felt bringing him home would be unfair and an expense they could not justify at the time.

Pedens are the company we used, they set up everything and it all went smoothly, I loaded him into the container into the care of the groom and was able to stay on site until after take off knowing he was settled and happily en route.

I've flown a horse in from America to Prestwick and pretty sure all in it was around £5k. That was with Doyle Bloodstock Transportation. I know they fly into (and therefore, I'm assuming out of) Dublin also.

Buzzlightyear moved her Highland from Lancashire to America earlier this year, I'm sure she could help if you popped her a PM

I believe that it depends how far the horse is going from the main transport hubs like NY and Boston. If the horse's final destination is close enough then it won't add much on top of the flight charge. But it's when they're going quite far away as in your situation that it really adds up. Best bet is to call one of the transporters.

Also I think there is a much longer quarantine for a mare, I think it's three weeks and that also adds to the cost as well.

You may find that you can ask for 'relocation expenses' as part of the deal depending (very much) on your job offer. In fact, scratch that, you can ask anyway - you will just get very different responses. Might be worth a shot though.
