Can anyone give me a rough idea of what a vet charges for this please?

I feel bad to phone and ask incase I come across as being heartless but I do need to budget as have other vet bills to pay off.

February this year, colic call out at 6pm, vet in attendance hour and a half, nothing could be done, pts at 7.30 by injection. Drugs already used pain relief etc, several internals. Knacker truck in by 8pm.

£450. without the colic call out/drugs I would think around £230 ish.

I paid about £200, but this wasn't an emergency call out.

There's the removal costs aswell, it was (i think) £150 or £600 if you wanted individual cremation.

You could always use your local hunt? Ours charge about £50 for a 14.2. Or there is always the knackers yard, which will pay you...

One done on humane grounds by vet - covered by insurance so don't know what the actual cost for pts was as never saw a bill, all taken care of by vet practice! Bear in mind though that some hunts won't take them if they have been on drugs of any kind. Ours wouldn't so knackerman (I hate that word!) collected her for £280. He did state that this needed to be paid at the time of collection. It was later claimed back through insurance .
One done by very good local knackerman £280 total.
It just seems to vary hugely as to where you are (in the UK) and how you want it done etc.

My hunt cost me £130 for dispatch and disposal. My vet check prior to this to confirm that the action was within the BEVA guidelines was £110. I claimed both back off the insurance; the hunt provided an invoice and covering letter saying the vet had confirmed it was the appropriate action.

Thanks. It's definitely going to be the vet, I was going to use the hunt but logistically it just won't work. He'd become highly stressed out being led anywhere away from the others, I'm the only person who he would go with and I just can't see him be shot, also for his sake his companion will be present to keep him calm and he dislikes bangs so the vets just the better option for this horse.

Thank you too Twiggy2

The vet has just text me suggesting Tuesday or Thursday :( so real, having a date, well I actually haven't got a date because I didn't know which to choose.

This is the worst bit I promise you. The waiting. I wailed when dizzy was pts on Tuesday but I know I made the right decision and surprisingly I have been ok. I really thought I wouldn't be.
I have no idea what the vet has charged as I haven't had the bill yet but the hunt took her away for £335.
BIG HUGS
