Does anyone have any idea, or ball park figure as to how much it costs to fly a horse over to America??

THere is a slim chance we may be posted there and my head is saying give him to a friend to jump properly for 3yrs but my heart is saying I have to take him.

Any ideas guys

Sorry, got no idea what it would cost but I can understand why you would want to take him with you, he is a star

However, you do know where to send him if he doesn't go with you

Aha....... cheers Cat!!

OH just came home and said 'fancy Vegas?' and the weather is so poo, dark nights etc it all sounds appealing.

FGS don't tell Suzy......... it'd be a bloody family uproar especially if it didn't happen.

Here is some info i have regarding shipping horses from UK to USA....i dont think the horses can fly directly into Vegas so you would probably need to go Via Los Angeles and then arrange road transport to Vegas which is about a 3 - 4 hour drive from LA.

Procedure for United Kingdom pre-export & USA post arrival
The process for shipping horses from the UK to the USA involves no pre-export quarantine in the UK. However, before export, we would arrange for blood serum to be pre-tested in the USA for Equine Infectious Anaemia, Dourine, Glanders & Equine Piroplasmosis. CEM pre-testing is also required for all horses aged over 731 days (excluding geldings.)

On arrival in the USA all horses complete a 2-3 days import quarantine where the blood tests are re-run.

All horses aged over 731 days (excluding geldings and horses in continuous training, provided they have not been on breeding premises since reaching 731 days of age,) then go on to a separate CEM quarantine (approx 15 days for mares and 30 days for stallions.)

Airfreight: Scheduled service from Amsterdam to Los Angeles:

GBP 3,685 per horse PLUS

Cost to receive and clear in Los Angeles:

USD 1,700 per horse (based on 3 horses travelling together on a pallet)

The above cost INCLUDES the following:

Road transport from UK to Amsterdam
Airfreight, as described,to include war risk insurance and fuel surcharge
Services of animal attendant on flight
Shipping supplies
UK Customs
IRT Agency fee
Cost to receive and clear in USA

The above cost EXCLUDES the following:

Veterinary preparation costs and blood pre-testing
Overnight stabling in Newmarket @ £25/day en route from UK to Amsterdam
Breed registration fees
Transit mortality Insurance
Extra-ordinary veterinary charges due to illness or injury
Cost of delays outside of IRT's control
Road transport in USA
US Customs merchandising fee of 0.21% of declared value for any non-USA bred horse
US Customs duty fee of US$3.00 per US$1,000 of declared value
CEM permit (mares, stallions & horses in training) - US$150 per horse
CEM quarantine (not required for horses aged under 731 days or geldings)

Yeah it is pretty expensive. The quarantine is one of the largest parts of the expense so whatever you do, MAKE SURE you pay for this as a door-to-door service because if there are any hiccups, as there were when we brought our pony into the States, you will end up paying for the full time the horse is in quarantine.

Total cost was £6,600 to bring our little pony mare over, and this included her being land-shipped up to Canada. Your horse is a gelding though so quarantine will only be for between 3 and 5 days.

If you do price it up - do make sure you read the smallprint as there are so many added expenses. The actual flight is only about half of the cost and will be more if you can't find 2 other horses to share the container.

Don't worry, lips are sealed, I know what families are like

It does sound very expensive to move him there

As it wouldn't be a permanent move (hopefully), I think you would be best leaving him here. When will you know for defo? I've always fancied Vegas - it sounds fab!

Chumley is feeling very well at the moment - going hunting soon so will find out exactly how well

Suzy's new girl has been backed so he is being chaperone out hacking at the moment - he likes the girls so loving it
