Has anyone else suffered from this? How did you cope? I’ve had a chest infection for 2 weeks and tonight was told I have this too after going to the walk in centre. I have 3 on DIY and work a Manuel job. I’ve been in agony. Just trying to work out how to cope.

Hi, Kodak_TBT. So sorry that you are suffering from this horrible condition.
Did the Walk-in Centre staff make any treatment suggestions?
Re: horses on DIY: could you do the bare minimum/get some help from friend/s? Afford to take time off from job?
Use holiday allowance?
From personal experience, doing nothing and keeping going is sometimes not the best way forward.
I hope you feel a bit better very soon.

I had it last year after having a mild cold. It was very painful and the advice I was given by the hospital was to take pain killers and anti inflammatories. Laying down and sleeping got easier after about a week and it took about six weeks to go fully. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Laying down has not been to bad, any sort of bending is absolute agony, there is a popping feeling occasionally which the sensation of makes me feel sick. The trouble I have is I’m fairly new at work and I don’t know what to do for the best. Getting a GP appointment for a sick note is just like trying to catch a unicorn.

I’m sure the walk in centre had a good look but I think I would want a chest X-ray to make certain there isn’t anything else going on especially if you are in such pain. It’s not worth making yourself so ill you can’t work or do your horses so if you need to take a few days off you can do so up to 7 days by self certifying.

Just said keep taking the pain killers, but my paramedic friend is horrified they didn’t take a chest x ray so when he’s off work tomorrow we are going back.
I’m finding what to do about work hard as I only started there 6 weeks ago and my dad died 3 weeks ago so they have been brilliant with me and I feel like I’m taking the piss a bit ??

I have Fibromyalgia and have had this several times as it is more prevalent in fibro sufferers. The most god awful pain ever :( I can only sympathise greatly...painkillers have only ever taken the edge off for me personally, resting but also gentle movement helps. Also it's important to take regular, deep breaths, no matter how much it hurts xx

I know someone who had something similar. Theirs was aggravated because they went to the gym quite a few times a week. It did clear up but took quite a few weeks. They also have a manual job. I had pericarditis which is inflammation of the sac around the heart. Anti-inflammatories really helped, not ibuprofen, they were tablets prescribed by the hospital.

I believe I had it 2 years ago (not officially diagnosed), but I had moved about 2 tons of top soil that day, and the symptoms did fit.. I don't know whether I did right or wrong, but I lay length ways on a foam roller, which did take my breath away, for a bit, but felt better afterwards. I also have a manual job, and didn't need to take any time off because of it.

My daughter was diagnosed with this as a child aged 9. She was rushed to hospital with severe chest pains and hooked up to all kinds of machines, it was very scary for a small child and for me too. They recommended she use anti inflammatory medicine and gels. I also bought her a long thermal sleeved vest to wear under her shirt for school as cold seemed to aggravate it, as did too much exercise which meant many days being excused from PE at school.

Its gotten better as she has grown. She learned breathing exercises as part of the problem with chest pains is you don’t want to breathe and she felt faint and dizzy as a result, she did actually pass out once. Hot water bottles were a regular thing in our house and the really helped her. She’s 23 now and it rarely affects her now. It’s a horrid thing to have so I do sympathise tremendously. I spent many a night cuddling her in bed while she cried from the pain. I hope you can find some relief
