Please can someone give me a idea of cost to pts and remove?
The horse has not been on bute or any other substances and I think although I cant hold him for the hunt im not against that idea as its very quick and painless.
Ive been told this morning £1000 and im shocked at this?
 
You could contact the National Fallen Stock scheme, it is now free to join for horse owners and they will send you a list of all the local organisations available to euthanise and dispose of the body and the prices. You then pay by direct debit the following month if that helps?

ETA £1000 is what I imagine it would cost for a vet to pts, I'd expect nearer to a couple of hundred for euthanasia and removal.
 
Last one I took to the hunt was a small pony and it cost £50. We had the choice of whether to hold her on not. If they prefer to come out to you it will of course be more expensive than that.
 
I had my mare PTS by vet, think it was somewhere inbetween £100/£200 for call out, injection etc. Then I payed £380 for her to be taken away and cremated...I didn't have her ashes back.

I don't have any experience with having a horse PTS through a hunt, but I'm sure others on here will be able to answer that particular question, just thought I'd give a rough idea of what it costs through a vet/cremation service.

The hunt will be around the £200 mark for destruction and removal (you'd obviously need to speak to them for exact costs.)

If you do use the hunt make it clear to them that they will have to ensure that they have someone to hold the horse (they usually come in pairs).

I hd to have a horse pts at the beginning of last year. I can't remember the exact cost but it was over £500 together(vets euthanised and separate collection).

I wouldn't use the vet again, not because of cost as that was no issue, but after having it done it really doesn't sit well with me.
 
Speak to your vet/ farrier/ livery yard owners about the local knackerman - they are highly skilled and sensitive people (IME) as PTS is their day job.
The cost depends on the size of the animal, we paid £160 for a 16.1 TB and £80 for a 200kg pig.
You can contact your local hunt secretary - some hunts are able to offer this service other not, cost is similar to above.
 
I paid less than £300 for the vet to pts and a local man to collect and take away. I didn't have anything back. I don't know where his body went.
 
£150 for a farm services group for PTS and removal and the man was so amazing with the horse, it was so humane. I could not have been happier with how nicely it was done (of course better if it hadnt been done at all!).

Vet had quotes triple that, and hunt was about £250.
 
When Polly had to be PTS (very suddenly) in 2010 the total bill came to £700. This was for late night emergency vet call out, lethal injection, removal and individual cremation with ashes returned to me in a wicker casket. Service from both my vet and the equine cremation company was extremely professional, and couldn't be faulted.
 
£120 for the hunt to come and pts and take him away. Very quick, stress free (as much as that sort of situation can be) and efficient. They will hold him if you are not able to. Other methods can increase the amount quite quickly, especially if you are going down the ashes route. Although you will have no earthly remains with the hunt, somehow to me it seems like full circle.
 
End of October last year, vet PTS by injection (extra dose as she was on long-term barbiturates and I didn't want any problems) and group cremation with no ashes returned and I had change from £600 which I think was very good. It all went very smoothly and I was more than satisfied with all parts of it (as much as you can be of course).
