Cottage Craft bridle

I've just been trying to oil my new Cottage Craft bridle to make it supple but the oil doesn't appear to be soaking in. Now, the bridle was cheap (£16 with reins) and it smells like leather but why do you think the oil won't soak in?

Maybe try taking it apart, oiling it and then wrapping it in newspaper and leaving it for a few days? You may find it soaks in eventually.....

I cant recommend Stubben Hammanol [sp] enough for oily new tack - makes it all soft and supple

But I was wondering whether it was imported leather or treated with something (basically rubbish) and oil may not soak in at all.

Are you sure it is leather and not equileather?

Equileather is a completely synthetic product that looks like leather, it is used by Weatherbeeta on the Wintec saddles.

Thank-you. For the price then, I would say it must be equileather. Just had another sniff of it and it doesn't smell so leathery anymore

Must have had the smell from other bridles in the shop.
