I have to confess - I never really groom Bruce in the proper sense of the word. He gets brushed but I don't 'strap' him like you are supposed to. He gets flicked off, and mane and tail in his hair, but thats it.

I have to say that I dont think he looks too bad!

Sooooo my question is - how long do you spend grooming your ned? And with what brushes?

My yard grooming kit consists of a flicky bruch, hoop pick, effol and brush and mane and tail. Oooo and a mud scraper thingy.

I dont do an awful Lot, I brush every day but mind you not got much to brush with ben hes pretty much always clean

I dont strap him, just flick over him and pick feet out and do Mane and Tail.

I try and give my horse a decent groom at the weekends, but during the week I only do where the tack goes and pick out her feet.

I only brush her tail on special occasions as I've seen too many tails become thin from endless brushing. I finger it through instead.

I tend to end up 'itching' rather than grooming. I groom mine loose in his box and he just wonders round presenting me with the bit he wishes to be itched, i get very little say in it! I tend to use a flicky brush first to remove mud, then a massage brush which he loves, followed by a goats hair brush to shine him up. Mum is in charge of mane and tail as I'm allergic to the canter spray stuff. He used to get about a 15min groom a day but he's gone onto livery now so hopefully I'll have longer.

I usually groom George for about 15mins, longer when it's my day off as I love doing it (well unless he is really muddy!).

I get any mud, loose hair off with a shedding blade, then over with a dandy brush, then body brush and metal curry, I then go through his mane and tail, wipe his eyes, nose, bum and bits, oh and do feet.

I flick over during the week, make sure no mud or dirt on saddle area and pick out and oil feet. At weekends when I have more time they both get a good proper groom and maines and tails brushed out. I was taught too much grooming is as bad as too little and both have lovely soft, shiney summer coats so I think they are coping fine as we are!

My grooming kit is a dandy brush, a soft flick brush, body brush (that i cant remember the last time I used) hoofpick, rubby curry for moulting season and an Oster mane and tail brush - which incedentaly is the best £10 I have spent on any horsey item....

Madam is not keen on brushes, so in the winter it's just to take the worst off stains before sponging (she's grey!).
But during the show season she just has to put up with it - usually soft flexible body brush and a little face brush. Her tail is kept in a tail bag so only gets brushed after washing or at shows.
Now she's turned out in an individual paddock she seems to appreciate a scratch a bit more but soon lets you know when she's had enough!
I love grooming too, and when I had my big show hunter we spent many happy hours with me pampering him!

OMG you all brush loads compared to me...... I have only youngstock and broodmares at the moment so they're only groomed for special occassions like the vet or shows..... they're checked over every day and their feet done though so I guess the essentials are taken care of!

To be honest my pony a lot of the time doesnt enjoy it - when shes in the mood she does but sometimes she doesnt want to be fussed and faffed about with.

In the week she just gets a quick flick over with a dandy brush, feet picked out/feel down her legs, i wipe her eyes and then tack up and ride.

At the weekend i usually spruce her up far more as i have more time available. Give her a thorough groom, wash her tail sometimes (she is a yucky mare!) paint her feet, sort her afro mane etc

errrrrrm errrhhh well...don't know if I should admit this....I gues I'm a bit sad, I do have a life honest! ....ok I'll say it.

NEARLY EVERY DAY! ...arrrhhhhhhhhh ok I said it.

Mainly because I like to check over his legs, see if he's walking ok etc because he's now out 24/7, also just to keep him in routine of being handled everyday (he's only young) on the days when he's not being ridden, oh and just because I love pampering him and spending time with him, I even washed his tail last night not because it was green and stuck up with poo...just because I fancied giving it a shampers! and I'm known on the yard as a bit of grooming junky! I've always got a pair of scissors or clippers in my hand, if I'm not grooming Mr M and busy grooming some else's!

ooh forgot to say as well , Chocolate Log your horse looks very well groomed... so you must be doing something right with your flicky brush!

Never really. I brush saddle area if about to go out riding thats about it. I bring the 2yo in and give him a proper brush but thats because i feel he needs this time spent on him, being a youngster the more i handle him the better.

I tend to only groom my horse before I ride him which is 4-5 times a week in summer and a couple of times a week in winter (but he has rugs on then anyway). I get the mud off with a rubber curry comb, then dandy brush, body brush and spikey dog brush for mane and tail (I know thats probably bad but we don't show or anything and it all needs thinning out as its a bit thick!) pick out feet. Have to say I don't even own any hoof oil these days, as I use hoof moist when its dry and the other Cornucrescine one for when it's wet, so don't want to over do it with products.
My little welshie got so dirty in winter I gave up brushing him when he started moulting and he's pretty much self cleaned himeslf back to white!! (do give him a rubber curry once over to get the worst off so not total bad mum!) but he has no rugs and isn't ridden so I like to think he's living 'au naturele'!!

Have been known to ride out with stable stains everywhere too!

Don't think either of them look too bad for it though.

Very little. One pony hates it and the other isn't ridden, so is given a make-over every couply of weeks, when he's not moulting, more often when he is!

If I'm just hacking and short of time, just the tack areas get brushed and feet picked out. I have been known to not even brush the mane and tail for a hack, but Henry is a clean boy (and he's bay, such a help!).

-raises hand meekly and whispers- I groom most days, certainly every single day that I ride, and I can spend anything up to an hour bodybrushing...
