I went to the yard earlier, and Roo had a huge lump in front of her leg, on her chest sorta thing. It's about the size of a tennis ball, and hard.
She had been in her stable for 5 hours, because I'm trying to get weight off her, so it can't be a kick.
I rang Neil, to ask him if I should ring vet. He said it's probably just a fly bite, see how it is tomorrow.
Can a fly bite really swell up that big?! Do you think that's what it is?

my horse reacts very badly to fly bites and gets huge lumps! his go down in 24-48 hours.

Mine had a golf ball size lump on his neck a couple of days ago - pretty sure it's a fly bite - there was a bit of blood on it like a horsefly had been there and his companions are mini Shetlands so doubt they could have reached up that high. It sort of spread out and now has nearly gone though still has a pea size hard lump there.

Yes it can.

Flies bite other things too and apart from being allergic to whatever it is they pump into you they can carry goodness knows what infections from one meal stop to the next, and they don't wash between meals either. Here we have several fly/mosquito borne diseases that are extremely nasty, the horses can have vaccines for them, humans (I am told) have to wait until you get it!
