Could a good dealer be my best bet for my next horse?

Yup, not going to be cheap... but I have a good few months ahead horseless as I can't ride plus money I get for Sam plus savings so not too worried, will pay for safe horse.

My "ideal" I'd be looking at about £8k-£10k but I have nowhere near that amount of money. Went to see one yesterday and wasn't right. Unlike you I'm not prepared to travel up and down the country - just haven't got the time and am not that desperate for a second horse as already have one (unlike you). Now, give me an opinion on this... 16hh 12 year old gelding, absolute shoolmaster on the flat and I thought he was amazing - perfect horse for what I need at the mo. Owner wants to loan but doesn't want him to move. Yard is only 2 miles from where P is. She is open to part-loan - thinking maybe this could work with having 2 horses on 2 different yards. He loads and travels well and thought about suggesting Thurs/Fri/ Sat and Sunday for me. Would ideally like 2 horses on the same yard, but this could be good solution for us. One of many options we've had in last few months LOL!!!

How's the leg? You any more mobile?

No...we just wanted to be doing riding and stable chores together at the same time and not at different yards! Other issue is I would need to have him downgraded if I was to do BD with him and not sure whether she'd be up for that - just need to ride him a few more times so that I can approach the questions I need answering. I found him word of mouth - maybe best bet for you? Mare I went to see yesterday may be suitable for you but she's 15'3 but good flatwork and steady jump - OH rode her and he's 6ft+. Has been competing BSJA successfully up to Newcomers and would go further. Would also do a nice dressage test but she was just a little too laid back for me - needed something with a bit more spark. Good price too (less than what I mentioned) but does have a stable vice, but not too serious.

I wouldn't overlook a 15.3; I'm 5"8 with a really long thigh hence ideally want bigger but if someone 6ft can do ok on her... BUT it is all just planning right now, I'm taking redundancy so need to get new job first AND need to get my leg sorted. Expect to get next horse in the Autumn hopefully, gives me time to save up for 'the one' too.

Word of mouth would be ideal..

I will keep my ear to the ground for you. Lots of horses for sale around here and know loads of people that would knoe. Will keep you posted!

Helen Bell is supposed to have a really good reputation for selling good horses. She is fairly local I think - She has a good cross country course I think that a lot go to schooling and stuff so she needs a good reputation and to keep it that way.

One the more expensive side but as in she doesn't sell cheap and nasties!

Will ask about otherwise, see what I can come up with...

Definitely. As long as you buy from a reputable one, preferably on recommendation, it would be your best option. It will cost you a bit more, but you can at least get someone to source a horse that is right for you - and if it isn't, they will take him back!
