Last few days i have noticed my cob being well to put it lightly an ar$e! he is not forward going to umps or anything. he reluctant to come in. try ask him to go forward and he would rather go sideways! he is very laid back but used to be so forward going to the jumps now he is the opposite we have not done much jumping since he changed feeds, could competition mix change him? has anyone had experience like this?

i dont think the feed could cause him to stop wanting to forwards.

Usually you would find that they had more energy due to the higher protein in a comp mix.

has anything else changed?

yes he being awkward but he just not himself. something has changed and im not sure what. if only they would talk!

could it be his saddle is tight behind his shoulder if he has changed shape or whatever which could be why hes reluctant to go forward

protein isn't an energy source, they use it to build muscles and stuff so it won't be that. Could still be the feed tho - like Katie_and_Toto said comp mixes are usually quick release energy. Maybe try something more fibre based? Then if he doesn't improveyou know it's not the feed and you can get his saddle checked etc.

I think some of the high energy feeds do make some horses more awkward rather than have more energy. My warmblood didn't get any more forward when he was on comp mix in fact he was more backwards thinking coz he thought he saw gremlins everywhere

It was like he was on hallucinatory drugs

i wouldnt say so no, my horse is on competition mix and before he was the most lazy ploddy sedate horse to ride dont get me wrong he is still as sedate as he was and will happily plod around on a hack but he has more energy when you push him on ive just been using it while building up his fitness over the summer gutted he wont begetting ridden enough to use it over the winter

it could be the food or it could be that he as knocked himself or rolled awardly and twisted something so he could be in pain. cut the food out and see if this makesa difference!
