was riding in the school and skye was going fantastic really balanced and working really nicely

was doing a 20m circle at E and was in the middle of the school when something suddenly shot over the fence and came into the school (this is about a 3ft solid wood wall running around the school). scared skye half to death and she whipped round and bolted and i hit the deck

Its a good job you wern't hurt or YO would have really been in the poo. A few weeks ago I did my first ever 'canter pirouette' when the yard cat bolted underneath my horses belly

Hmm, two opinions on this.
First is that, my dog often jumps over the fence while I am riding, and I expect my horses not to be too distracted by it. I keep my horses at home and the dogs have free rein.
BUT on the other hand you are at livery where the YO has a duty of care and therefore should not let the dogs cause any kind of incident.
I would be peed off in your position.

I can beat that! My friend (luckily not me!) was riding my horse round the outdoor school when the YO's bl**dy dog tried once again to catch the YO's bl**dy DUCKS! The five bl**dy ducks launched themselves off the top of the bank quacking furiously in panic and, needing a bit of time to get properly airborne, smacked STRAIGHT into my friend and my horse's face!!! Feathers and screaming and all sorts. Thank god for laid back Haffies! But when everything had calmed down again, Haffie had squished one of the ducks under foot so you could say it was 4-1 to the ducks.

Frankly,I think horses should get used to as many distractions as poss. especially dogs and cats. There are dogs all about in our yard, they go out on rides and into the fields, and yes, sometimes the arena too. The horses take very little notice, which stands them in good stead when they're out.

Try a rather excited male Peacock in a dusty indoor school and a horse that thinks said Peacock is the devil about to eat him! He just stood there trembling

I was laughing though as he was then trying to see if he could do a step/sniff/step/sniff manouvre to see if it would eat him. It didn't, it squawked, took off and Beau grew about 3 hands and pranced off with no brakes - but we got a fab extended trot. I was quite chuffed that he did at least feel a bit safe with me as before just a slamming door and it would be a proper bolt.

Unfortunately the Peacock declined the offer to be my groom and gee Beau up at Comps :P
