could he be deaf

Hi . I have a 10 month old that i'm worried could be deaf. He dosen't seem to react to noise. He doesn't look when called and only takes notice when one of the other nags moves. you can stand near him and shout and scream or bang a bucket with no reaction but sudden movements make him jump. could he be deaf. He is a lovely lad and nothing really seems to faze him, could this be why, Any help or advise would be great. Never known of a deaf horse before.

I am assuming that you are talking about a horse

I have seen one deaf horse. The unloading of both barrels of a shotgun directly behind its head produced no response. Deafness is rare (as far as we know) but I guess your vet might appreciate the business!

I once thought my horse was def, then realised it was selective hearing LOL! - Probably not what yours is doing though lol

yes i would get the vet, but it sounds like a possibility as he is showing no reaction to any noise, which is unusual in a 10 month old!
