..have walks out every now and again just because he gets bored in his field and I have all the time in the world at the weekend to spend with him :D, and a good friend of mine walks her unbroken mare about the horse tracks because the yard is minutes away from a hugeeeee park :D..

He's a miniature shetland colt 4 and 1/2 month old, not really scared of anything at all around the yard but could it be a different story if i try to walk him out?..

Yup, i take my mares and my old boy out for walks in the forestry commison park :)
If hes strong just invest in a bridle/control headcollar
 
Not sure about putting a bridle on a 4 month old but I am sure he will love it! Perhaps lead with a lunge line just in case he shoots off you will still have hold of him!
 
When I started to walk my filly out she was in a headcollar. I started off just going around the farm (unused fields) to see how she was. Once I was confident that she was fully under control, I took her for a short walk up a very quiet lane, just for 5 mins. I then started to build it up slowly. Now she's 2 years old and bitted, I take her out in her bridle and the longest walk we've done recently was 1 and a half hours!

He is young but build it up slowly, make sure that you will both be safe and start with a very short walk to see how he goes.
 
Thanks for all the replys guys.. saturday morning (weather being nice i hope as he thinks mud and puddles will swollow him whole!:p) the lunge lines going on and with my very helpful dad we'r going to do a little circuit that should take less than 10mins and see what the little lad thinks to it all! :D:D
