Could I get a decent Lorry with a budget of....

Haven't looked at the one you're interested in, but in my experience...

TAKE A MECHANIC - DO NOT GO BY A NEW PLATING/MOT CERTIFICATE!!!!!

*spot the person who did not take a mechanice, who did go by a recent plating, and who is now thousands of pounds out of pocket

that would be a 5.5T...

so unless you passed your test before 1997, you wouldnt be able to drive it.

I thought it would be 3.5t?

I won't actually travel two horses in it, the most would be a TB and a Section A but I want one with as much room as possible inside as my horse has a stupidly high head carriage.

It has a buy it now price of £4500 - i quite like it.

I think it looks really smart, just not sure if it is to cheap?

Doesnt matter a stuff what the dimensions are - he doesnt say what the PAYLOAD is

I bought my first lorry in May and that was drummed home to me by the person I bought my lorry from

- yes, your horse needs to fit into the lorry, but you also need to be sure that you are within legal weight limits

it is a Dodge 50...A 5T lorry...

a friend of mine bought one not 6 months ago..looks almost the same as that, living, partitions for 2...she took it for a plate 2 weeks ago...it has a payload of 350!!!...so the most she could carry LEGALLY would be a Great Dane.....

they are not the best small lorries on the road IMO..

Yikes I bet she wasn't to happy

I think I am going to have to be very careful if I do decide to get a lorry, it's all so confusing

agree with JM, thats not a 3.5T lorry.

and second that you need to check the payload, I think the older and hence cheaper 3.5T might have less payload, the newer more expensive ones they have been careful not to add weight.

You are poss going to have problem with head heights too.

check payloads- get a cert!!!
also if its older even if the engine has been reconditioned remember the chassis have done all those miles!and thats what the horses are essentially going to be standing on!
defo get a mechanic to check it. prev have service history and recent ish cam belt change on older ones.
most will do an inspection for about 100 quid.
you maybe able to find something but be very careful and prepared to wait- there are loads of DIY botch jobs about as the 3.5ts are v popular now.

echo amandaco2! Lots of dodgy ones around now as they are so popular. I just took my test and bought a 7.5t which actually ended up as a cheaper option, as we then had far more choice of lorries for the budget which was same as yours! Ended up with a Bedford TL which touch wood has been fabulous for the last 3 years and still going strong, been as far as Lincoln and Wales from the home counties.
Several friends have gone down the 3.5t route with varying success. Ideally I think you need a budget about 2 or 3 times yours...but for the cheaper end of the market a couple have had VW LT35s, and one has a Bedford CF, another just sold hers after many years. None have particularly big horses though and none travel two I'm afraid. But they are out there, just take a bit more finding I think.

yes, it does...unfortunately the seller is wrong to put that, as its a dodge 50,

ETS......I've spoken to a friend who has confirmed that there was a DODGE 100 series made and they were if fact 7.5T....

So maybe this is a DODGE 100??....

Hiya,

yes it is possible Mine is an R reg, has a 1.2ton payload, no living but has a changing area and lots of room for storage. it takes 2x 15.2HH and travels my horse and welsh sec A fine.

Im going to get the skirts and ramp carpet redone, and a respray ( doesnt need it, im picky hehe ) and will probably sell it. Only reason being is i want something with more living now so will probably get a 5T.

The Dodge 50 has the distinctive bullnose front and the 100 has a flat front.
