Could I get away with clipping my mare?

Meg's coming back into work after being off for a month due to illness.

However, she is sweating immensely after each ride/lunge. If I were to clip it would only most likely be a trace clip. It seems unfair to keep her sweating when I could just as easily take off the worst bits. We aren't showing or anything this summer.
I get very confused regarding late clipping and the lines etc!

If you clip now you will be clipping some of her summer coat. This will mean that lines will show all summer.

If she was a show cob you can clip all year, but I am guessing you keep her as a hairy.

If you really must clip I would do a full clip, blending it into the legs to leave the feather intact. That way it should not be noticable later.
 
I clipped one of mine on Saturday. I clip when they need it, I don't think there is any 'cut off point' for clipping in reality.

If you show your horse then you may have to consider if it will adversely effect his appearance when being judged? Mine are jumpers so I clip to keep then cool, simple as that. :)
 
I would say its too late to clip now really as you'll be clipping her summer coat but if you're definitely not showing, go for it. She'll thank you for it :)
 
A furminator might go a long way to making her comfortable without clipping?
I seem to have removed half a horse from one of mine yesterday and she looks sleek and amazing instead of long-haired and scruffy!
With my cobs I can't clip once they start moulting (if they haven't been clipped that winter) as it gives both the clippers and myself a hair-induced nervous breakdown ...

But if you can face it, take it all off!
