erm not the best pic in the world .... so comments

wearing a blue rug and bridle?
Could be a touch lean, for the time of year... if those lines are ribs not fuzzy cameraness
 
does seem to be lacking in top-line/muscle wastage by withers and has a major sore or injury to wither area so could be the reason for muscle wastage, could do with a bit more condition.

why the question?
 
Looks OK condition wise to me, my TB is on 3 feeds a day and looks the same, I would be worried about muscle wasteage on withers though
 
I dont think its serious at all, I had a TB who came to me worse than that, I concentrated on the weight first, and then the muscle came with work ie hacking on hills a lot and schooling. Is he/she in work? Whats he/she fed etc?
 
Agree with the others, condition wise not dissimilar from friend's tB at the moment, maybe ideally could have a bit more weight but the muscle wastage looks quite noticable and the white marks might suggest a saddle or rug has been badly fitting at some point?

she is quite elderly, mid to late 20s and was very skinny when her owner got her. She is pretty much retired now just goes for a hack in walk every now and then. She is still very ribby (much more than she looks in the pics) was just wondering about other's comments on her condition. I don't think you should be able to see their ribs, just be able to feel them.

agree...why is she clipped?

Tbh - if she is in her mid to late 20's and does virtually no work then you can't expect her to look great especially if she were very underweight last year. All her weight could be underneath - hard to see from that photo.
My tb's ribs are always on show but he is not underweight - just undermuscled.


Is she your horse OP?

Yes i would be pretty upset if someone posted pictures of my horses asking for comments i do hope the owner knows. Also if this veteren mare was very underweight last year and is looking better now she must be doing the mare fine.
 
No I probably shouldn't be posting pics. I don't know why she clips her, I tell her she shouldn't every year but she likes the way it looks so does it anyway and then puts half a dozen rugs on the horse. By Jan the poor thing hardly stand under the weight of them.

She was more underweight THREE years ago and has put on a little but IMO not nearly enough. I am just wondering if other people think she looks ok and I am concerned for no reason
