I have owned my five year old cob a year , i did buy him from a field in which he had been put straight in off the ferry from Ireland. So Granted we know VERY little about him. Since buying him he has had Serval problems and spent 8 days in the vet school.
Overall he is a saint, very laid back , very chilled , Happy horse.
I initially noticed his issues as he started to bolt as soon as i got on him about 6 months after we got him , this was very new for him and unexplained. It would only be the first time i got on him and i could get off and on again and he would be fine. I managed to control it slightly by having someone on the ground feeding him nuts whilst i got on and got ready. My instructor just thought he was cold backed due to his "unknown bad past " I did not believe this as much ... but i am a worrier !
With his fitness in creasing i started to notice he developed what seemed to be a fear of his saddle SO badly i have actually been unable to tack him up a handful of times he blows his stomach so bad and moves away form me that i cant get his girth up! but whenever i get his saddle out he seems scared of me to !!
so i got a saddler out who said his saddle did not fit and he was tense on both his back and girth due to it but gave me a new saddle and for a three weeks he was happier however the problems are back in full force , refuses to be tacked up at all now and i hate to see his so distressed and i am sick of being told i am to soft on him , i am not.
I would like to add he has had a case of ulcers in his stomach due to his accident with the tree however the vet school assured me when i collected him they were all treated and cleared as we agreed to paying the extra for it.
Am i being a worrier or are these similar symptoms ?
If anyone has any ways in which they think i can help him i would love to hear also we have a 3 grand vet bill so would rather hear opinions before i give myself another one!!
