Could my mare be in foal??

Went to check my mare this evening, was putting her fly spray on and noticed her nipples were swollen, poked and felt them and they felt different (not that i feel them often) then some fluid came out, if you squeeze them loads comes out. Only had her 5 months and now having a big panic, will ring the vet first thing in the morning but does anyone have any ideas to put my mind at rest. She has never noticeably come into season all summer.

The more i write it all down the more I am worrying!!

She doesnt look in foal from the pics... Has she had a foal before? Mares which have often have milk in their teats even years after.
 
Not that i am aware of, it was quite watery white fluid and there was plenty of it. She is quite broody, when we have taken her out and there is youngstock around she will get worked up.
 
she doesn't look in foal from the pics but if you are worried then you are proberbly best getting the vet or calling her previous owners and seeing if there is any possibility
 
She doesn't look in foal from the photos, when was she last in season? How often has she come into season since you bought her?
 
Her previous owners have a section B stud, so i suppose there is always a possibility with these things.

Will definately call the vet in the morning but I was just panicing alot and am not ringing the vet at this time of the night

It wouldn't be a bad thing - we have all the facilities and the lady that owns the yard breeds event horses but changes my plans a little.
 
She has never 'obviously' been in season, she has been moody for a few days twice since we have had her when I thought she might be starting. Her previous owners did say she isn't a hormonal mare.

We have an event mare on the yard that is possibily in foal - waiting for her first scan, could she pick up on this??
 
he he he - don't apologise, to be honest I do think when the time comes for me to have a child i would imagine she would do the the same. She is very loving and friendly in that kind of way.
 
Well, cookies anyhows! An idiot on the yard had said she was putting her new 'gelding' in my field - I saw it when it arrived and gently pointed out the two little round things mean't it really couldnt be classed as a gelding! I did think for a while she'd let it in, plus she was also a total tart with a riggy gelding and would stand begging him - the hussy (and yes he did once) but she stayed leaking milk and looking like a barrel all throughout my pregnancy -= and it cost a fortune with the vets bringing out the mobile scanner!
 
You've got to love the yard idiot!! She just wanted to be like her mum

Will get the vet to come to her tomorrow and can always take her to the horspital for a scan if needs be. She really shocked me today though.

lol!!! Ask if they have a mobile one... mine did so saved the cost of getting her there... TBH I suspect she enjoyed the scan - really was a terrible tart! I felt quite bad as I secretly would have loved to have a foal from her, thought about it for ages off and on... but so very glad she wasn't... she died the following NY Eve in her sleep so the consequences would have been horrific. Trust me, if I eat ANY cookies Peds will refuse to move, and will probably sit down!
 
My plan is to show her this year as a novice then go into the opens next season before putting her in foal the following year. We have dabbled with a few open classes this year and done Ok but she gets tense and needs to be more confident.

Would love a foal from her eventually, been secretly looking a potential eligable batchelors all season.
 
She could have mastitis. Does she leap out of her skin and try to kill you when you squeeze her teats? If you suspect she could be - erm - with child, talk to your vets. There's an injection a mare can have that will abort any foetus and bring her back into season. I had this done with Angel when a neighbour's colt (don't ask!) got through the fence and was seen covering all 3 mares in our field. Twice with Angel, the little Jezebel! I had to wait - can't remember - 3 weeks??? Then the vet gave her an injection that wiped the smug smile off her face lol. Carrying and giving birth to a foal would probably kill Angel. Rescue mare - ragwort. Again, don't ask.
 
Spoke to the vets first thing this morning, he came to do her teeth last Tuesday and said she was highly unlikely to be in foal. Didn;t even think it was neccersary to come and see her. Apparently it can be a sign of her feeling good in herself, he just said to keep an eye on her for signs of mastitis, she is not sore around there and is quite happy for you to poke and prod around- yesterday she was loose in the field and was quite happy to show me her new trick!

I always worry when professionals say things like "highly unlikely" or "you can't miss it" or "it's so easy a child could do it". So just in case, don't forget to post pics of new baby on here lol xxx
 
My 2yo filly has developed swellings in front of her teats and a very small bag this summer. Vet reckons some can react to extra oestrogens in the grass and some mares will go as far as running milk.
