I have never done a dressage test before hence why I why asking for help.

Little Jockey and Millie had a brilliant schooling session today and now Little Jockey is determined to turn Millie into a dressage pony! At the moment their trot work is by far the best, canter and walk still needs a lot of work but do you think they would be up to a walk and trot test? Just so they both get the feel of it?

Millie is still a bit inconsistent in her outline but as the schooling session went on she definitely got the hang of it more.

Here are a few photo's from today

(More Piccy's and a fuller report in PG!)

of course they could

loving the white dr pony bandages.

walk trot test are not about outline anyway they are about moving forwards, willingness and accuracy.

small CC for jockey

make sure she isn't fixing her hands too low in an effort to bring millies head down, much better that she tracks up and swings from behind a bit

(old habit of mine hence why I spot it though hard to tell from pics)

Of course! I did dressage tests as a kid on a pony that didn't even nearly go as nicely as yours and spent a lot of the test trying to run away from the scary horse eating white boards!

Agree with Ester about the low hands thing though, she could def do with holding them a little higher.

Yes definately, they should go for it. Concentrate on going forward nicley with balance and rhythm, don't get to fixated on outline (agree about hands too).
Nice pony and super jockey. Good luck to them.

Of course she could compete. They would also benefit from finding their local byrds group and going along to clinics, camp etc. Go onto the British Dressage website and click your regions to find the contact number for where you live.

definitely they could do a test...pony looks very nice- esp first two pictures. in the last 2 she's dropped onto her forehand- jockey needs to make sure she keeps her elbows bent and could do with sitting a little taller and looking ahead- if she tries to ride her forward into an elastic contact pony should come up into the bridle...but looking good, only little things to fix!

OK thanks every one. I also agree with the hands and I noticed in most of the pictures that Jockey is looking down so we will work on that.

Any ideas on how we can get her working as well in walk and canter?

does pony lunge? i lunge a fair bit- in pessoa or side reins or bungee depending on horse- can help them to work correctly without having a rider up there too...plus you can see off the floor what it is they are struggling with...and this then helps your riding

She will lunge but we don't really do enough of it, will have to make more of an effort I think because it should help Millie.

I've got a Passoa copy but not sure if that will go small enough, will give it a try. When we tried Millie in side reins she just fought (sp?) them so not sure they will help, the other option is a Lungie Bungie or dare I say it draw reins. I don't think she would need much working in them as she seems to pick things up really quickly, it would just show her what we wanted her to do and then we can work on it from there!
