I wondered if any of you had had any experience with urine infections in horses. My mare seems to be urinating far more frequently than usual.Up untill recently she had never urinated while I had been riding her but now seems to do most times I go out and sometimes more than once.It will sometimes be a little bit and sometimes the full lot.Over all I think it's too much for her to be doing as she usually would if in season.I'm totally baffled.Any advice or ideas would be much appreciated.

Might be that she's in season and fancies a hot new gelding maybe recently moved to within sight/smell of her. Is she winking her "bits" at anything vaguely male? Is her pee cloudy? Smelly? Pink looking (dip a clean white tissue in it) which might indicate blood in it? Is she drinking more/less than normal? There was something similar on the Forum a few days back and someone reminded us all that dandelions are a diuretic, ie make you pee more. If you have a sudden flush of dandelions it might make a small difference. Does she seem herself in all other ways or is she tender over her back, not eating as well etc etc. If it doesn't settle in a day or 2 or if you think there might be blood in her urine or if she's really not herself, I'd get the vet out. Be warned! They will want a urine sample so find a big, clean, old jug and start hovering!!!!
