Had my dog 3 years and he has odd days when he doesn't want to eat until late afternoon. He sometimes is sick with slight specks of blood in vomit. I feed him Chappie and Butchers tripe, and he has plain rice and boiled chicken. Cant seem to pin it down to food though.
Vet cant really give a diagnosis, although she is now trying him on an antacid to see if its an acid reflux thing ? Have looked up ulcers but symptoms don't really fit. Anyone any ideas ?

Sounds very much like my border collie. Got him as a 3yr old rescue, very thin and always just picking at his food. Had a few episodes of coffee ground vomit. We didn't know anything was wrong until a few months later when he had a major episode of vomiting and diarrhea which was very bloody. Obviously we rushed him to the vet and they diagnosed him with perforated ulcers. We have managed him on a very strict diet for 9 yrs of just james wellbeloved and chicken and rice/fish a few times a week, with just a few small episodes of sickness and they were treated with ABs and antacid successfully. But last November he got really poorly was was admitted to hospital with chronic gastritis and pancreatitis! When the vets did some scopes he had 5 visible ulcers which had healed and 1 which was perforated.

The vets were amazing and fixed him up nicely but me have to be so careful, the slightest thing can get his stomach churning. We feed him 3 to 4 small meals a day which seems to really help and keep his tummy settled. No titbits AT ALL :( and still chicken and rice a few times a week. Hope this helps, good luck! x

Thanks Vicksey, think Ill ask the vet if she thinks this might be the problem, he is insured so no probs with paying for any investigations etc. He has been on ant acids for about 5 days now but has had one off day.
