BUT...It is a Vauxhall Zafira With a 1.6 engine. Would this be able to tow a horsebox...?

Thanks

No - my parents 1.9 renault scenic can tow the bow with the pony (11.2) in it but can't pull the horse in it as the car is too light and the gearbox isn't up to it.

I wouldn't imagine so and if it does, it wont pull up any hills and the engine probably wouldn't last long.

I would say no. You do see people towing with all sorts of cars but they just arent up to the job especially when you have to stop. Indespension do or did a great book that gives details of the max weight each car can legally tow.

This is why we are selling our Peugeot and buying something that is capable (see post above). Too many people out there that are towing overweight with completely unsuitable vehicles, just completely dangerous and asking for trouble.

er, in short - no, no and more no. not unless you want to be rolling backwards going uphill or seeing your beloved pony overtake you and the car going downhill.

Cars are not safe for towing any double trailer with a horse on board aside from the fact the law says the towing vehicle must be capable of towing the MAM of the trailer which is just under 2.5tonnes for the Ifor Williams 505. Show me a car with a towing capacity of 2.5tonnes and I'll eat my hat.

Its also illegal to tow with a vehicle that does not have the towing capacity.

that's a 2 litre, not a 1.6 and only a single trailer though - bit different.

Ditto my car is a 2 litre TD nissan primera and I have the smallest Bateson - Derby. I only take my one cob who is under 500.

This is the minimum you could get away with in terms of car size.

I do drive very carefully, avoid bad weather and have to be careful of venues I attend as I cannot do really muddy rutted fields. My car pulls fine but I would not have a larger trailer or horse with it.

Maximum Towing weight for a Zaphiras is around 1100kg. Most trailers weigh in at around 900-1000kg so there is no way you could tow a pony let alone a horse ....or two

Absolutely fabulous you are towing illegaly as you are over the towing capacity of your car no matter how light your trailer is, this will void your insurance and should the police pull you over and weigh you they are entitiled to seize both the car and the trailer and have them crushed, they will also prosecute you for driving without insurance, you will also be doing serious damage to your car. Its just not worth it. the new ifor single trailer weighs 767kg empty, add your average 14.2hh connnie (mine is 14hh and weighs 500kg on a weigh bridge but 450 on the weigh tape) it puts you well over your cars towing limit.

depends what zafira it is. the 2.0L turbo has a max towing capacity of 1500kg so would be ok with a single Ifor and a horse.
