Could you cope with a sharer?

Would you like to break a horse(s) in?

Recent posts regarding finding sharers/riders for horses, espec ones asking for good/bad stories, got me thinking, could you cope with sharing your horse?

Ive thought about doing this myself a few times, but when it comes to writing the ad I change my mind, mainly out of worry that I will find someone who isnt good enough, or god forbid hurts my horses.

also I keep asking myself could I cope with someone else spending so much time with my boys

However, having someone else to ride would be a blessing!

i didnt like sharing my horse but i think with Kate i have found the right person who makes it a lot easier to do.

I've had a sharer before when I was at College and she was brill. She kept my horse fit during the week and looked after him completely mon-fri, so I could come back at weekends and compete/hunt etc. It worked really well. Now, though, I don't think I would like anyone to share my horse.

If I was in a position where I would have to sell I would rather share than sell though I suppose...

Had a sharer for a very long time. The arrangement has only ended now because I have sold the horse. At the moment I am quite enjoying the novelty of doing everything myself..although i am sure that will change by December

I have a sharer but it's my sister - does that count? she contributes a little to one of my horses upkeep and rides a couple of times a week. I never thought I could share and still not sure if I could with a stranger.

I had a sharer at uni, which was great as it igave me time to study etc.. she was ace though and treated Zak as if he was her own, I am now a sharer, which works out great as I cant afford to have my own and do have other things to do in the week, so works out really well!

Ditto! NO ONE, but my own mother, under very strict instructions, gets to handle my horses without me around!!

[/ QUOTE ] Me too, I have her on full livery (without riding and grooming) and thats great. Someone else putting in feed (which I buy for her and she's on a yard where I know they do as I ask), turning out, bringing in and changing rugs is all fine, but anything else, I'm really only happy it being me!

Yes, it is the daughter of a friend who i know very well. She rides once or twice a week which takes the pressure of me. I ride 4 to 5 times. However i don't think i could have a sharer that i didn't already know.

Hah, i am still looking for the opportunity to show what a super sharer i could be...! If only someone round here wanted a nice sympathetic rider for their horse a couple of times a week, but everyone in this area seems to be fully occupied in riding their own horses !

Merlin has arthritis in a fetlock joint and i just dont know that a sharer would have the same care about how to ride him, knowing they would not have to pay the vet bills and they could move onto another horse if they could not ride him anymore.

Also if he did go lame, would i blame them or me???

I put 'only if it was that or sell my horse'.

If it was a good friend, or someone I knew rode really well, I would.

Otherwise I would be too worried.

I';ve just had a sharer start and I have to say that although I miss him on my 'days off' it's finally given me a social life again!

She's experienced on the flat aswell so it giving him the schooling that he needs.

I wouldn't let just anyone on him, but personally think it does horses good to have other people ride them.....
