Hi,

You'll have to excuse me I'm new to this forum and I'm sure you get loads of people posting similar threads but I was wondering if any of you have a spare few minutes to help me with a project I have to complete for my equine course.

I am specifically looking at training techniques for horses that lack forward movement/impulsion. I'm sure you have all ridden a horse like this at some point or experienced it with your own horse so I was wondering if you could take the time to answer some questions on techniques for me? It's not on survey monkey as I wanted to leave the questions as open as possible in order to allow people more freedom in their answers so if you are happy to take part I will PM you the questions :)

Thanks!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO not another new poster with a survey !! This forum is getting swamped with these and livery posts.

If you don't want to do a survey, don't open the thread - it's clear from the title what this is about. :rolleyes3:

Welcome to the forum Student101. Feel free to PM me or why don't you post your questions below - you'll probably get more response that way as some answers may trigger responses from other people. :)

As Admin said, they are ALLOWED.

This forum is getting swamped with comments from you saying Noooo on every survey thread, and it's actually becoming more annoying than the surveys.

I must say shysmum i dont post on the survey threads as i feel with a bit of searching on the forum most answers are already there, but good luck to the OP

Ok guys sorry if I caused offense! I just sort of figured if people didn't want to answer they'd ignore the thread?

Answers to my questionnaire wont already be on the forum as I am asking people about their personal experiences with specific horses. I have generally found that most people, particularly people on forums, are happy to share their experiences of techniques that they found to be effective (or less so) but perhaps that's not what this forum is about?

On a side note if you feel your forum has gone a bit dead then perhaps don't berrate them as soon as they post? A warm welcome goes a long way! :D

Anyway thanks for reading my thread! Anyone that feels they are happy to answer and wants to share their experiences please PM me :)

The problem is that many students post for survey help as their first post, and then never come back to the forum again - so not contributing to the cause. Or share any results with us.

Nothing personal, honestly !

Did you find the search function helpful then, i sometimes cant find what i am looking for, yet i remember reading about it on a thread. I need to practice more.

Thanks shysmum, i was asking OP though wanted to find out if there really were no threads at all that would have answered her question.

I believe the old days when you were studying and did the actual research yourslef, learning other things on the way was more beneficial to learning the job you are studying for, than posting a survey monkey and getting hundreds of folks to answer the questions for you, which you just compiled your report and handed it in. Just my opinion but them i am from the old school.

There is another survey thread running which sadly those volunteering to answer cant because of the questions, waiting for your reply on it shy

Haha! Charming!! As I mentioned earlier my questionnaire is based around individual people, with their own individual horses and what training techniques worked and didn't work for those unique pairings so unless someone has stolen my research project I highly doubt the answers will already be on your forum! I think you will find that even in the "good old days" scientists used research projects that relied on the participation of others. Text books are wonderful things but civilisation wouldn't get very far if we didn't keep evaluating and moving forward. If you don't want to participate then that's fine but please don't assume that everyone asking for participation are somehow lazy or uneducated!!

I find that a little courtesy goes a long way when you are asking for peoples help. The number of these survey posts which have rude responses from the OP's when they don't get the respons they want is unbelievable.

I was actually thinking the opposite in this case though, YorksG. I thought a few of the replies to her were rude and that she had been pretty polite in her replies!

Yes we used to use textbooks, the world seems to have moved on and if the universities are happy for students to do these little surveys, then the students will do them!

As for Shysmum, I think you have a bit of OCD re surveys!

Hmmm ok - look guys I'm really really not looking for an argument. I was just asking if any of you would be happy to answer a questionnaire- thats all. I have no intention of forcing anyone to particpate and equally have no issues with anyone who'd rather not. I'm sorry if you have had issues with people in the past but I feel I might be getting attacked for things other people have done.

For those of you who have agreed to participate I should have PM'd you but let me know if I've missed anyone! :) Thank you soooo much for taking the time to answer my questions I am incredibly grateful and genuinely look forward to hearing about peoples experiences!!
For those of you who haven't responded but have/have worked with horses that you feel are "behind the leg"/"lacking forward movement/impulsion" and are happy to share your experiences I'd love for you to answer my questions but as I said I understand if you would rather not. I am more than happy to post the research project once completed if you are interested but it will take some time to write up.

Sorry OP i dont want to make a thread an unpleasant one, and i am not even implying that students are lazy it is just the change of the times, and yes back in the good ole days, blah blah blah.

However i do believe there are threads in the past which people have posted about their individial horses being behind the leg etc and i wondered if you have searched the forum first or just made a thread because it was easier.

"Chips on shoulders need to be knocked off, smile!"

Apologies if I came across like I have a chip on my shoulder I suppose I was just a bit shocked by the reaction I recieved. Lets start again and perhaps I can explain a bit more about what we are required to do to help you all understand that I am not just being purposefully difficult or lazy! :) For one element of our coursework we need to complete a piece of scientific research. It's not a dissertation so I cannot just use information from books/existing sources- I have to collect the data myself. As this has to be conducted like any other scientific study the questions have to be consistent across all participants which is why I can't just look at peoples posts I need them to answer the exact same questions. Even if the posts are basically answering the questions it would be seen to "invalidate" my study as there would be no consistancy in the way I am collecting my information. This all makes it sound far more complicated than it is, it's just a couple of questions about peoples experiences really but this is how we have to do it :)

Hand shake pleased to meet you, hope you get your answers and your lecturers are happy with them, lol, we are all a pretty nice bunch on here incl me, lol, thats why i try to tell myself to putasocinit but its hard, i do believe a good healthy disagreement without swearing and name calling can be good for the soul. Makes have a stiff drink later worthwhile. Good luck

Pleased to meet you too! ;) ... lets just hope the lecturers don't read this thread or I may lose marks for lacking diplomacy skills! I can see you guys will keep me on my toes!! :D
