Could you help me with my research project?

Hi there,

I understand that surveys etc have become popular with University students looking for research topics, I had all sorts of fun trying to write one that would produce meaningful, repeatable results. Done well they are extremely useful tools for data gathering, done poorly they are a tedious waste of time!

Feel free to PM me, I have a lazy toerag!

I was actually thinking the opposite in this case though, YorksG. I thought a few of the replies to her were rude and that she had been pretty polite in her replies!

Yes we used to use textbooks, the world seems to have moved on and if the universities are happy for students to do these little surveys, then the students will do them!

As for Shysmum, I think you have a bit of OCD re surveys!

Here Here! A survey counts as doing research. It doesn't sound like the OP trialling different methods of getting different horses off the leg would get to the heart of the question and even if it does its not really a practical thing to do. I used secondary data for my diss cus going to Palestine and collecting it myself wasn't practical.

Send it over OP and welcome to the forum.

Well I think that Student 101 sounds pretty articulate and has obviously put a bit of thought into the creation of a survey that won't just be a series of tick boxes which don't include the answer you want to give.

It must be very tempting for the below-average achieving student to devise a surveymonkey survey and get lots of answers which don't actually say very much, but Student 101's post #26 explains exactly how she is doing her research, by asking a variety of people the same questions.

Posting on here asking for volunteers to answer the questions is a perfectly valid way of increasing the number of respondents participating in the survey, and thus getting a wider variety of possible responses from which to draw conclusions.

I would also be happy to answer your questions, Student 101!

Feel free to PM me too. Currently doing my own dissertation (not horsey) so know how hard it is. Can't guarantee when I'll answer but will try answer before the weekend?

Generally speaking, I don't approve of the manner in which students demand participation in their poorly thought through surveys on here. However, in this instance I would be happy to look at questions and respond as the OP has been more polite than some posters, and does appear to have some idea about why they are doing this.

I reserve the right to change my mind on seeing the questions, and still think a so called "science" degree should involve collection of real data rather than collection of anecdotes, but this poster is still doing better than most.

Please PM me too. Happy to help. But can you give me an email address to respond, because the PM facility on this forum is dire!!!

ps can't believe the responses from some people, why open the thread, the title is perfectly clear.

PM me to if you like OP, I'll happily answer your questions.
A follow up of your findings in the future would be interesting as well
Kx
