On Halloween of all days, I’ll be moving my horses to the new yard. I’ll go from having practically no contact (about four visits since July) to seeing them almost every day after that. Not the best time of year to make the transition, but I’ll embrace the mud and the cold in return for lots of horsey cuddles (including foalie ones - hopefully!). Will get mud control mats, a shelter, have bought a salt lick, hay is on tap (from the farm). Still have a list of things to get but have some time to sort.

It feels a bit overwhelming, yet exciting. Hopefully once they have moved, they’ll settle quickly (I know it could take time), and we’ll get into a routine and it will feel natural and easy. As the new yo says “it’s your hobby, it’s meant to be fun!” 🤩

I find the horses settle quite quickly usually when they have a buddy moving with them compared to a single horse moving.
Embrace it and enjoy it especially getting to see them every day.
So many people have wanted to see them. I’ve had to say no a lot - but now we can bring people up too (not too many or too often, but my mare loves people so it’s nice to be able to share her).

I found that Baggs settled a lot quicker when I moved him to where we currently are and I put that down to having Rabbit my youngster who moved at the same time with him.

They've both come out their shells again and are my cheeky chappies.

So pleased you've found somewhere - please spam us with photos when you get a chance! x

The date, no idea where you are situated, but not so far from here there are now typically fireworks from October half term, Halloween, Bonfire Night, and weekends either side - in case you need a heads up for settling yours in.
Good luck with the move!

That’s a worry as I’m not sure my mare has been exposed to them before. We will be a bit closer to civilisation there, but hopefully it will not be too crazy.

Worth asking the YO what it is like around that time of year?
A good shout by Exasperated as I wouldn't have thought of that.

My mare struggled with fireworks when they were set off at the pub next door (I'd just finished riding and was putting her out to field) but once in the field with others she ignored them. - she was 5 yrs old.
