I love my Tuffa Suffolks...this is the third winter and they are still going strong despite daily abuse! They do a wider fit and the velcro on the calf means they fit everyone.

I have the K*ty ones off Eq Clearance, come in half sizes and fleece lined, short, good for supermarkets and general wear but no steel shank for riding, ok for short hacks.
I was going back for Dublin Pinnacle as these are on offer at EC, and have steel shanks, does anyone have a positive experience with them, I thought the looked quite smart and are supposed to be waterproof. Not half sizes unfortunately.

Think the Tuffa boots are head and shoulders above the rest in terms of quality, warmth and you can ride in them too.
Lots of negative views on posts around Dubarry's. Interesting that the positive ones are all from people who bought theirs a few years ago. Someone told me that are now made in China so maybe this has something to do with it?

I bought my Dubarrys in May this year? And they are fab I wouldn't be without them now, I lived in them all summer doing event photography and they weren't too hot... and now I'm living in them all winter and they are the only boots that keep my feet toasty. I've had the toggi boots up until I bought the Dubarrys but they don't even come close, if I were you I'd save up for the dubarrys.

dublin river, bad reviews as the lining seems to stuff up and need cutting off legs

tried the Rydale ones and they were not very good, felt like they would collapse at the heel very quickly.

K*ty ones, i had some short ones and they started coming apart in a couple of days

Mark Todd, not country boots, but I tried some of the riding 'work' style boots on this week, the calves were huge! The shaped bit at the back billowed out empty and I could press it in and squish it lol.

Re the HKM - a girl at work has had hers since Feb and is getting wet feet already!

I'm not sure which Toggis' I tried, but it wasn't my calf that I had problems with, I've got torn ligaments in my ankle and didn't have the flexibility to get my foot into the foot part of the boot!

Now that's interesting because I smashed my knee years ago and my right leg isn't straight. Although I love the look of the Ariats they hurt my right ankle. The Toggi Berkeleys are the only ones that I find comfortable, maybe they'd be ok for you?

Thanks for all your feedback guys! I'm still at a loss, not helped as I can't actually find many to try on for fit!
I'm mostly worried about the boots being warm and waterproof. The spanish boots look lovely, but guess with the zip they'd leak?
THanks for the feedback that the dublin pinnacle might leak! I've got raynauds syndrome and my feet/legs/hands are already a mass of chilblains so the last thing I want is soggy feet!
Have also looked at Musto shooting boots - anyone got any experience?

THanks again!

Tried all the Rest Has to be Dubarry or Chameau Vatnas for shooting super grippy sole, and they both have Goretex whatever you buy buy DONT buy Dublin River Boots, or Welligog Sloane Boots

Allways buy the best Bed and the Best Boots You Can afford if your not in one you should be in the Other, and look after them

Aww, shame:( At the risk of sounding like a Toggi rep; there is a Toggi Canyon that looks a bit similar, I couldn't get my right foot into those.

Never mind Cinders, you will go to the ball. Not me though, I'm one of the uglies;)

Sorry couldn't resist - 'tis the season:D

Try the Dubarrys - mine are now on their seventh winter, get hosed and the lanolin cream they supply put on & bingo! All clean and tidy again. Some look a likes tend to go baggy like socks. :D

I've been looking for new boots too.. Up until now I've had a pair of Dublin river boots. They were ok, lasted me about a year and a quarter of daily wear, yard work and a lot of riding. The linings have given in - the first one broke in summer this year, I've had to use a plastic bag to get it on for the last few months! Then a couple of days ago the other boot's lining decided to attach itself to my foot and was ridiculously difficult to get off and so now I can't wear them. They were still waterproof though so no complaints there, just bad lining.

What I'm looking at now are ariats, either windermeres or grasmeres. Not sure which is best though, anyone got any reviews for me?

What I like about the Ariat Grasmeres is the fact you lace them to fit your calf, which makes them really warm, and like a second skin to walk in. Any boot that doesn't fit like a glove to your leg will move about when you walk so isn't going to be as comfortable. The other thing about Ariat is they have brilliant customer service. I had a bit of a leak in one of my boots after a year and a half's hard service, and they fixed it and resealed the boots free of charge. When I eventually wear them out I will definitely buy the same again.

Before you buy Ariat Grasmeres make sure you try them on. I bought some at my local tack shop - they were a bit difficult to get on but i thought they would loosen up. They didn't!! I ended up having to send them back to Ariat as it was taking 10 minutes to get them on - they were very tight over the arch of my foot as i put them on and the lining was pushing down with my heels. Several people on the forums said this happened to them too. Ariat admitted thre was a problem with them and replaced them - i asked for the next size up. Now the foot part is too big really but they are a little easier to get on - my secretweapon is a pair of shiny, slippy pop socks over my socks and jodhs! I already had a pair of boots from the year before last which are Cabotswood ones - they have been really good - warm and waterproof and way more grippy than the Ariats.

I recently got myself some HKMs which I'm really pleased with. A friend put me on to them, she had a pair of Toggis which leaked, then a pair of another make, sorry can't remember which - also leaked. She got the HKMs last winter and they kept her warm and dry and she's on second winter with them.

Fingers crossed then but so far so good and they are incredibly comfortable (and cheap).
