Anyone ever sent their mare here? Am thinking about using Country Top Gun on my small hunter mare next year - anyone ever used him/know anyone who has used him?
Thanks.

Hi,

3 years ago i sent my 14'3 arab mare and Top Gun was used, my mare gave birth to a minimal coloured filly who will be 2 in August. She is the most nicest natured filly anyone could wish for. From the word go she loves people, is so friendly and i love her. She can jump as she proved by jumping over my old gelding (15'3) while he was rolling with his feet in the air!!!!!!
Nothing bothers her she stands by herself for the farrier, the vet, and a bath (with the hose), and when i clip the others she is there and not bothered.
Karen Raine is also a really nice person who doesnt mind if you call every day while your mare is there, she is really great.

Here is My Country Pye (Pye at home)

My mare is a chestnut 14'3 and Pye is around 14 - 14'1 (i think), Karen thinks she should make 15'2 - 15'3 but who knows

and thanks for your comment.

Kipper1, i agree with you my mare was well looked after while she was there.

I seem to remember last year there were a few unhappy customers from this place... and allegedly a couple of issues over the advertised "fertility"/pregnancy rates for their stallions. As with everywhere, approach with caution and get personal recommendations!

I travelled from the midlands all the way to Country Farm Stud to make sure the stallions and the stud were ok. I was shown all the stallions in a stable and in a menage, they were well mannered and all had very good temperaments. I met Karen and all her grooms and by the time i left i felt very happy with everything. This was my first time at breeding and my mares first time. She had excellent vet treatment while she was there i really couldnt complain, she came back as she went and nothing was wrong with her weight.
But everybody is different im sure there are plenty of studs i wouldnt send my mare to but other people would. In my honest opinion they proved to be a good stud. And my filly's temperament is to die for... she doesnt bat an eye lid at what is 'thrown' at her, and that is all i wanted.

I know the stallions from the jumping circuit and they are very well mannered, but I wouldn't breed from either of Top Gun or Marksman, simply because of friends having foals born with fatal complications (on more than one occasion).
The place and the people are fine, but I am sure there are other stallions you could use that would meet your needs.
