Hello wise HHO-ers!!

Hope all are well!

Right, so my grey mare is coming to le England! :D

I have a livery space at my college for her so she'll be travelling to the UK beginning of October from Italy. Very excited indeed.

So..any advice on helping her settle in etc? :)

Brilliant news, I'm sure she'll love it her!
I've never moved a horse to a different country before so no real advice other than to try to keep her routine as similar as possible and give her plenty of time to settle in :)

Hi, I flew my horse over from Dubai. Because it was such a long trip he lost quite a lot of weight and I got up in the middle of the night the first night he arrived to check he was ok but after that I let him go into the field and just monitered his behaviour. Luckily there were no problems :) Though he did end up getting mud fever and he was very cold for the first month (a bit of a temperature and climate difference!)

He was fine, however, just me being very cautious :D

I'm sure your horse will do well

Who is travelling your horse over? I may just contact them and change delivery address to me :p:p:p

Seriously, I moved 2 horses over from Belgium from livery yard to home in England and just tried to keep their routine as similar as possible in terms of feeding/turnout/work as much as I could and changed slowly to what suited my life. It was late September/early October when they arrived here, but similar weather patterns as I am in South East.

Your girl may be a bit chilly when she gets here so look out for loss of condition so you can adjust feeding/rugging before she loses too much.

Enjoy!

Thanks :D i really hope so, she's used to being out 24/7 and at uni they only do from 8-3 turnout..hope she settles down :) x

Wow Dubai! how lovely!
yes I think I will be a bit paranoid to start with :D
It'll only do her good to drop some weight..the fat moose ;)
the temprature has already started to drop here quite a bit which I think might be a blessing in disguise. she's lived out in the mountains of north tuscany all year without a rug so hoping the drop won't be so bad.
Thanks for your advice :D

Haha after today, you are welcome to her!!

It's going to be such a change for her, I'm really worried that she's going to hate it :(
At the moment, she's on adlib hay and 24/7 turnout. but at uni she'll be haynetted and only get turnout from 8-3.. and her whole world is going to be turned upside down bless her :(

I'm hoping that weather won't be so bad for her as she lives out all year without a rug in the mountains. I think I might leave her coat on this winter and see how she copes :)
Thanks for your advice! x

From what I remember, North Tuscan winters were cold but a lot dryer than UK wet windy ones - even our summer has been worse this year! Just have a good waterproof rug ready. Play it by ear and just see how she goes on. I bet she will be fine. A girl on our italian yard brought her eventer out from England and it was fine, no adjusting at all - it was just  at hacking up terraced mountains after Surrey!!

As it's currently 25 deg c in South East and expected to remain at 25+ for next few days; you'll probably have to clip her if mountains are cold already in Tuscany - bloody typical!
