Countryside stewardship - can someone explain new scheme?

I hear that the farmer (who I get on brilliantly with if we don’t speak) has applied for the 20 acres he rents from me to go into the new countryside stewardship scheme.

I don’t want to upset the apple cart, but would like to understand the implications!

I gather its going to be put down to permanent wild meadow?

How long is the commitment for and any other useful information.

One thing to point out is that you can't use any supplementary feeding, apart from mineral blocks.

Thanks for that Pixie, good information. At a quick glance I can’t find out how long you commit to or is it just renewed on a year to year basis?

I will ask my land agent but think you can’t put hay bales out or over graze the land.

If he rents from you he will need Landlord's agreement. Rather naughty of him just to carry on without consultation.

I know- but I walk my dogs on the paths on his land which I really love, so I really don’t want to fall out as that is worth a lot!

I’d have the land back and apply for the scheme myself….
