I've tried it and am really pleased with it - doesn't work so well with a horse that marches about and drags its feet but I've found it makes a good "pad"
I can pick up the droppings without disturbing the layer underneath and it's absorbant enough not to get too large a wet patch. I've got a 18hh hwt hunter on it and he's much tidier on it than he is on shavings and I get through less of it than shavings
I do work for countrywide!! We genuinely have had no negative feedback at our store for this product and its absolutely flying out. Bargain price at the moment too, 3 for 2 at £4.99 each, so 3 for £9.98. I'd be buying a pallet if I wasn't on wood pellets haha.
I think we use something similar called Arden safemix, mixture of shavings and wood fibre, I'd say it's more like wood chips.
We use it with rubber matting and find it so much easier than shavings as poo sits on top or just under surface meaning you can pick it out with gloves without having to disturb it too much!! We're also lucky that we have a good slope on stables so urine drains away from under mats xx
Have you tried chopped and treated Straw? I find it better than shavings, maybe a bit more but lasts for ages - I use one bag a week. Best I've found is Bliss, they do a winter (Eucolyptus infused) and a summer (citronella).
I've just brought some yesterday and put it down, i was waiting for liverpool wood pellets to be delivered, they have been on order for over a week now, so had to go to CW and picked up some of the wood chip bedding
its a little bit dusty but would imagine that after a couple of days will dampen down a little. its seems easy to muck out and soaked up a fair amount of wet, so wil watch this space. if liverpool WP dont get the pellets here on monday will be cancelling my order and getting more of the wood chip bedding - at least i can get hold of this
i have just stopped using the chopped rape seed straw bedding. dont know if its the dry summer this year but it didnt seem to be soaking up the wet as much as before, i've used it for around 3-4 years and got on well with it.
I use them under a straw top, they soak up the urine and form a fab base, the packs/bags are smaller than the shavings but whilst on the 3 for 2 offer they offer good value, not sure if i'd stick with them once the offer is over due to paying £4.99 for a 75 litre pack as opposed to shavings at £6.99 for 120 litres!
