County Showing

She has a coloured Mare registered with CHAPS. She has done a lot of inhand showing with her at local level and came second in the championship, the judge said she would like to see her at county level but she has no idea where to start. She do not want to do just coloured showing.
Thanks

If she is registered with CHAPS then all she needs to do is enter the bigger shows that have CHAPS classes (or BSPA which is the other coloured association). Shows like 3 Counties, The Royal etc are all affiliated shows (not sure if they all have in hand classes though - definitely most have coloured classes now which often have 30 or so horses in each class!)

CHAPS will be able to advise which shows they are affiliated to.

With regard to open showing classes, she will probably need to start doing local ridden classes before affiliating and be aware that there is still some prejudice against coloured horses in open classes. It depends on her height and build as to what classes would be the most suitable for her.

Okay thanks for that, She cannot do ridden classes at the moment because of her mares temperament when ridden, a long term psychological thing that is being worked on. She has done a lot of inhand local classes, not all coloured so does not want to just do coloured as the county shows for this is far a few between.
Her main query is whether she needs to qualify for county or can just enter and where to find the entry forms for, also where her horse needs to be registered as a breed or not.
Thanks again for your help, We will research further on the CHAPS site and others
Best wishes

Yes, echo the others re. so long as she is registered with CHAPS, and your friend is a current member, then you just enter the county shows as you would a local one.
Be warned though, the county shows closing date of entries is normally way ahead of the show date, so don't get caught out!

The CHAPS website will have a list of all their affiliated shows, inc. county ones, and also the show numbers of H&H in the spring.

As FMM says, unfortunately there is still prejudice with some judges against coloured horses in non coloured classes, but this is becoming less so, particularly in the sport horse classes.
Having done a few shows with my lad this summer, I actually am going to aim more for the sports horse(non coloured) classes rather than the mixed type coloured classes next year. You get so many differing types in the coloured classes it's a bit of a lottery as to whether the judge likes your 'type' or not.

What type is your friends mare? Hunter, hack, sports horse...............?

you dont need to qualify for county, all you need to do is wait for the show numbers to come out in H&H and then send a sae to the secrtrey of the show who will then send a scedhule which you will in the entry form
