secondly, this is his current extended trot, his stetches out nicely but how can i encourage him a little off the forehand and to extend rather than speed up and poke his nose out??

He looks a nice weight but i agree his neck looks a bit thick this maybe just his type/build though.

Try sitting tall and sinking deep to keep him steady and regular rhythm when doing lengthening work that way he should stay more balanced and feel less need to stick out his nose or become heavy.

good luck

Is he in a pelham?
He has a hugge neck!
Nice looking boy, if anything slightly over rather than under, but not fat imo.
I would say look up in the extended trot! What level of schooling is he at?

I agree he is very nice. He looks ok to me weight wise but just needs building up really. His neck does look muscled up and not fat, just think that his shoulders and hindquarters now have to catch up a bit. Not being nasty btw saying that it is meant in a nice way as he looks a very well put together pony.
I would advise on a weight tape though as they are brill for monitoring weight loss and gain and also they are good for working out the weight when it's worming time.
One thing I will say though is on his extended trot his front and hind legs look pretty close together on the stride. It may be just the pic but does he ever have over reach issues at all.
May be just me and my eyes so I apologise if wrong on that one.
Good luck with him

the bit is an argentine snaffle(i normally ride in 2 reins but due to blistering from riding the day before only rode with one to save my hands a bit

what do you mean over rather than under? do you mean muscle on top and not under?? if so how do i build up muscle every where else other than the neck???

with regards to level of schooling, not sure how to define but basically he can do shoulder in/out/back up/walk to canter/canter pretty much on the spot!/nearly half pass/counter canter balanced/nearly flying changes!

dont worry have not taken offence-this was the advice i was after! he doesnt overreach-if anything i have a hard time getting him to track up!! the only time he tracks up is in extended trot!!

Well her certainly looks a little porky to me in the two first ridden pictures. But then looking again at the ones underneath where he's stripped he doesn't. Were they taken at the same time?????

Either way, he's a little smasher.
