1) if your horse was having to be hot tubbed and poulticed twice per day would you be charged for the service or would it be included?
2) if you wanted to ride would you expect twenty mins notice sufficient to get horse in from field and clean ( one staff member on duty)

1 I would not charge, while not working time is saved on other jobs

2 I would not think 20 mins fair, if on my yard they would probably get in in themselves, nice owners:)

1. Medical care to that degree I would expect to be charged although my yard happily cold hosed my lame mare at no cost for the few days it needed doing.

2. Nope I normally say the day before I will be up at say 6pm and horse is ready for me if I decide to go up and have not said I will be coming they will get my horse in (I may have to wait 10 minutes or so) or I will just go get him and get him ready.

They are very good and if they have time they will do it but i do not expect them to if I have not arranged with them which i think is the rub here.

It really depends on what was agreed when you moved onto the yard.

Tubbing is time consuming, so I can understand a busy yard wanting to charge extra.

Yes - I would give more than 20 minute notice to have my horse brought in and cleaned up, you don't know what the groom is in the middle of doing ie clipping. TBH if time was that tight, I'd do it myself.

I wouldn't be happy at paying extra for the medical care given, fairly standard and necessary care if a horse is injured/abscess etc.

I don't think 20 minutes is enough notice to be honest. I would say it should be 45 minutes at least!

i do livery. yes hot tubbing/poultcing is chARGED As extra yuo have the option of doing this yourself. if you wanted your horse in before teatime/at a specified time then you would have to fetch it in your self! unless previously stated in your livery contract.

1) I wouldn't expect to be charged for time taken in routine veterinary care, but I would expect to pay for supplies obviously.
2) 20 mins notice not sufficient!

it does also depend on the definition of full livery. my charges are quite clear with a list of extras if required clearly displayed. if i wasnt exercising but having to tub and poultice there would be no charge. however it depends on the definition of full livery.

I'm on part livery

1) Seems to vary but at the last three yards I have been on nursing stuff like bandaging, wound dressing, changing poultices etc haven't been charged but one charged for walking in hand, the other two didn't. I would provide everything.
However I would do it if I was around as I would prefer to check progress myself.

2) Depending on how far the fields are it could take more than 20 mins just to walk to the fields and catch in. Cleaning could add alot extra if they've rolled and that is assuming that someone is not in the middle of something they can't drop e.g. assisting vet, carrying out hot tubbing and poulticing.

Re tubbing it would depend on how long its needed for! If couple days don't think our yard would charge but more than a few days and I expect they would charge.

20mins nowhere enough time, especially if just one staff member- ! I always let know the day before what time I want her in if I'm riding in afternnon, and if I decide at last minute to ride sure I just go and catch her myself

a) If it was only a once or twice off thing i'd expect yard to do it, but if it was more i'd expect to pay

b) i have never been on a yard where i've asked them to take horse in and prepare for riding (maybe the yards i've been on aren't fancy enough!). I would have no problem catching him and bringing him in myself. I would just expect yard to put out and take in at regular time only.

1) It is done on our yard as matter of course and not charged for, to me it is an indication that my horse's care is paramount. Having said that i would pay as i have done this myself in past and it is a hassle, however I would expect that to be in the tariff of charges so all aware up front (not suggesting anyone would spring it on a concerned horse owner though :p).

2) No that is unfair, I would go and get it myself. If I knew in advance that I would be riding on a certain day I would tell them beforehand but not expect them to bring my horse in.

1) I would charge for my time yes as this is over and above normal full livery care. I do not charge for normal handling for vet or farrier, but if it is for something such as a full lameness work up which can take several hours, then I would. For hot tubbing and poulticing twice a day I would charge £10 a day.

2) I would expect to be told at the start of the day what time the horse was to be ready for.

Not techincally on full livery but v close

Yes I would imagine so if it were for a prolonged period
2) if you wanted to ride would you expect twenty mins notice sufficient to get horse in from field and clean ( one staff member on duty)
Personally, no I like to do this sort of thing for myself. I think other liverys give more like 40 mins notice.

1. Where I am currently I would be charged, but tbh I find it quite odd - every other yard I have been on and worked on would include it in the full livery price. Obviously supplies would be provided by the owner though.

2. I would almost always bring in and groom my own horse, but if I absolutely had to have somebody do it I would expect to give at least a few hours notice, e.g. ask in the morning if I plan on riding that evening. Having worked at full livery yards as well as being a client, 20 minutes is just not enough, especially if there is only one person working.

Surely a horse on full livery is being groomed, tacked up, ridden and tack cleaned ? If the bulk of that doesnt need to be done as horse has abscess then not unrealistic for an owner to expect time in lieu of riding/tack cleaning?

I never paid extra for medical care .
And no I would not consider twenty minutes reasonable notice in fact I have grooms at home looking after my own and I give them more than twenty minutes notice .

1) I wouldn't expect to pay extra for this level of care, my full livery includes all medical care (although, quite reasonably, all supplies required are paid for by me). But then my YO is fab at that stuff and will even take the horse to the vet in her box to save you a call out charge (you just pay diesal).

2) 20mins seems a bit unreasonable, even assuming that they could drop what they are doing immediately to sort the horse. I would think an hour was about the minimum notice.

I wouldn't expect to pay extra unless that was stated as part of the contract, I do know of some yards in our area that are explicit that treatment is not included though, but tbh I prefer to do things like that myself anyway.

20 mins notice - no way, you wouldn't get to our fields and back in that time and there's regularly only one groom on. 24hrs notice is the norm for us but generally there's no issue if they're informed first thing in the morning.

If I can't make my mind up in time I'm more than happy to go and get my horse myself, he's only really not on DIY because I can't guarantee giving a consistent routine with my job at the moment.

1) I'd expect this to be included
2) It would never even occur to me to ask in the first place. I know what time by boy goes out and comes in. If I want to ride when he's turned out I go and get him myself, brush him over and tack him up. He's on full livery because I can't give him a proper routine otherwise due to unpredictable work commitments, not because I don't love spending time with him. I think I'd feel pretty mean just rocking up and riding! If for some reason I were asking I'd ask the day before as they need to plan their day accordingly.

I wouldn't expect to pay extra for the veterinary care.

I would get the horse ready myself though or let them know the day before so they can plan their day. Grooms might be in the middle of clipping or paperwork.

My yard medical care would be included

If you wanted your horse in early or late ie not when bringing all others in you would have to get it yourself.

My liveries know what time the horses are turned out and if they decide to ride in that time they go and fetch them in themselves unless they have stated the day before and arranged with us for the horse to be brought in.
