Hi all,

Could someone please help me out with a few questions I have on Showing at local level?

I have a Welsh B mare so should she be shown in a white halter or should it be a show bridle?

When showing her in M&M I know that I need to show her in a waist coat but what colour should I be in? She is chestnut. Do I wear trousers or jods and again which colour should they be? I did hear some where that with the dark colour horses such as black and bay you should be in light colours so you dont clash with their legs and visa versa with the light colours you need to be in dark but im obviously not sure on this!

Last question - promise! When my daughter shows her ive been told she would wear a jacket, jods and boots - is this fine correct and what colour should the jacket be, tweed?

Thank you :) x

B's tend to be in bridles although you wouldn't be thrown out for using a halter.
Trousers and yes dark trousers if she has white legs and vice versa.
For ridden M&M tweed and beige or canary jods and short boots are correct for your daughter

Thank you! So you think the bridle would be the best thing to show her in? Does it matter what colour the tweed is or what do you think would be the best colour to go for? Yes she has white legs so I could wear black trousers? What colour wasit coat? Sorry for the questions but just want to get it right lol x

Also ideally I wouldnt want to buy more then one jacket for my daughter but will if needs be, but is she able to show the pony in a tweed jacket for both young handlers and M&M and then lead rein classes? Thanks for all your help and sorry for all of the questions! x

Not sure where im getting the waistcoat part from then! So do I wear trousers still with the jacket? x

Yes wear trousers with the jacket for in hand showing.

Tweed is correct for M+Ms, for young handler I would turn out to type, ie tweed because your daughter is showing a M+M. Lead rein showing depends on the actual class; for lead rein M+M and lead rein SHP a tweed jacket is correct, for lead rein show pony a navy jacket is correct. Since you have a sec B I assume it will be lead rein M+M. So one tweed jacket will be fine :)

If you don't have a tweed jacket, plenty of people show welshies in hand in a shirt tie and waistcoat. You should also wear a hat, although many don't bother, pretty much anything goes from a tweed flat cap to a stockman's brimmed hat. I think juniors are expected to wear a riding hat for in hand?
Hope this helps😀

Tweed all the way for the B's. They are the exception to the rule of the Welshies. They don't get shown in waistcoats or trainers and they don't tend to have their tails feathered. Bridles are best for B's to be honest. They do still get the single long plait down behind the ear along with they pulled manes.

Google pics of Welsh B's and you will see the turnout.
