Has anyone experience of selling a saddle and having it sent by courier. Who did you use and how much was it? Would you recommend them?

I have a buyer for my saddle on Preloved but she wants to pay her courier which I have heard can be a scam. If it isn't delivered I can't get any regress since the courier doesn't have a contract with me.

She said her courier would only charge £13 odd - while the quote I got elsewhere was £60!

£13 is an acceptable price. I've always used Parcel Monkey with no problems at all, and for an extra few £££'s you can get insurance too. I would get her to pay you though for the saddle and delivery of the saddle so you will be covered by the insurance if you choose to buy it.

Sounds to me like you are both being cautious and want control over who sends the saddle :)

How are they paying for the saddle?

The couple of saddles I've sold have gone via parcel force and cost about £20 for 24 hour, tracked delivery. Your other option is allow them to use their courier but have a written agreement that once collected from you you are not responsible for the saddle and if it doesn't turn up then it's their problem and you don't have to refund

Ha - silly me - I missed the decimal point off and got a quote for an 83kg saddle not an 8.3kg saddle! So collectmyparcel.com is quoting £11.69.

She will be paying by paypal.

Sold a few saddles thru ebay in my time. Lucky for me my oh owns a courier company but I have also used parcel force with great success. £19 anywhere in uk except Ireland for next day delivery. Make sure you get a service that requires a signature on delivery.

I just bought a saddle privately but let the seller organise the courier. It cost just under £30 with good insurance.

I paid by paypal once the seller sent me an invoice for cost of saddle and courier fee. From my side there were no issues and I could track the parcel via citylink as seller let me have the tracking number.

Think there has to be an element of trust on both parts - trust that the saddle you are selling is real and owned by you, plus that the buyer is genuine but personally I would have thought it was more risky on the purchasers part since payment is made before dispatch.

My main worry was the courier scam - I have read about it and its quite common on ebay apparently. Then I couldnt understand how hers would have been so much cheaper! Well now I know what a decimal point is so important!

thanks guys, have just sent her the invoice so fingers crossed it all goes smoothly
