Sorry to sound dim. Going to pop some jumps up in the field tonight and wondered what striding I put out for a double. My horse is 15.2hh? I normally only jump single fenses!
It does matter what height the horse is (ie. generally if pony or horse). Pony strides obviously being shorter.
Usual BSJA courses, for example in a usual double, are 8 of my strides (just normal walking strides). You allow 2 of your strides for landing, 2 for take off always. 1 horse stride is 4 of your strides. So for 2 fences with 2 horse strides in between, it would be 12 of your strides. Does that make sense?!
Of course, if you want to work on something in particular like shortening or lengthening striding, then I usually do this with 4 or 5 strides in between the fences and make the distance shorter or longer depending on which Im working on.
my point was, this; why talk about strides wen everyones stride is different but a foot is the same on every tape measure...!
2 x 12ft poles give you 24ft if that helps... you just need to know how long your poles are...!
