I have a Gypsy Cob who I adore, picture overload

Im not a big fan of cobs but i have to say - if i had to pick one.. yours would be it.. love him!

My boy is in my sig. Not a typical dopey cob so a potential sharer said he was too forward. A friend says he can jump like a stag He does occasionally need reminding that he is a big lad and that he has been taught manners.

When I was going through a confidence issue, I got on a dopey ex-racer, lovely lad, but bored me silly so I was delighted to get back on my whizzy creature.

Cow horses rule! I have had the pleasure of owning one fantastic skewbald boy (pics in my profile album) and now have the honour of another one on part loan. Both boys have been kind, well mannered, laid back and the best fun ever! Yes I am strict on manners but in return when the part loan boy caught his headcollar on something the other day and started panicking he was so careful not to run me over(I was stood right behind him!) and within seconds of being freed he was back to being his calm usual self and eating! I can honestly say that I don't think I would ever buy anything other than a cow horse again!

he's the village pet and everyone loves to come and see him. He's not a steriotype, and tbh I don't think many cobs are these days!
I think we should all put some pictures together and make a video of why we love our cobs and they CAN jump!

If you had told me 5 years ago i'd have a skewbald cob (allbeit a Cob x angalo arab) i'd have laughed in your face (see my sig for my normal type of horse - which i really ought to update!) - anyway - Connie has been the most fantastic little mare - after a difficult time loosing my old girl and a loan that was probably a mistake in hindsight - we did everything, dressage, xc, show jumping, trec, endurance until she broke last year, and spent months on box rest - which she was just so well behaved for - i nearly gave up on her when i didnt think she was going to get better - but she is, slowly, and she'll never jump or do distance rides, or be ridden on hard ground again - but i really dont care, she's now back in light work and an absolute dream, love her to pieces! piccy overload (these are all photos from before she broke - must get some up to date ones on photobucket!)

Got run over...literally, by a friends cob, bad-mannered beast....

Been bitten, kicked and thrown off cobs, 'supposedly sane' animals...

My theory is...some people 'assume' they are sweet, kind and loving...so mollycoddle them that much, they become unhinged and lunatics!

I'll stick with my mild-mannered TB's.....Standardbreds....etc etc....

Our cobs rule! However prove to some that they aren't just bimbling plods!

Heres my 3 yr old tobiano cob mare she is very soppy and loves a fuss.
Just started backing her, shes been so good. Shes great in traffic too which is a huge bonus! so far ive sat on her twice and done long reining with her
Shes currently 14.2/14.3 hoping she will fill out and make 15/15.1 Am 5ft10 and shes 14.2/3 i feel she takes the leg up quite well as shes so wide!
(i know my stirrups are ultra short in this one!!)

That's the 'cow' I fell off and injured myself on! She's got really unusual markings. She also has one full blue eye and one half blue, half brown eye. I've had her less than two months so I am aware that her condition is a work in progress..!

I think each to their own. I have a gorgeous coblet, lots of personality, very opinionated at times, but shes one of my best friends. She can be spooky, she can be a total mare, but that can be said of any horse, I wouldn't swap her for the world...and as I am 5'10" I needed a chunkier type to take up my legs, and I didn't fancy having a humungous pony!

So we all have our opinions and we are entitled to them, some have had bad experiences with cobs so wouldn't have them, so be it. Mine is well mannered and a pleasure to be around, she knows who's the boss and respects it. A raised voice is enough to remind her, so not all cobs are bolshy or desrespectful, just takes time and patience, as can be said for any animal, not just horses

I've had my cobby for 8 years this summer. Wouldn't swap her for the world.

She's unpredictable, she's difficult, she bolts (only when she's really, really, really excited mind!), she loves herself too much sometimes, she can really wind me up...

...but she is the sweetest kindest most honest little horse I've ever met. When she tries, she will try her heart out. If I get hurt, she pushes people out of the way to check on me. When we have fun, we have FUN!

Sometimes, yes, I'd love a warmblood who did exactly what I asked every time. Or a TB who could jump big jumps and who ran really fast. But then, if I had a horse that did everything first time, I'd get bored silly.

Bring on the cobs. No such thing as a dope on a rope, just a cob who loves it's owner!

Yeah my love of cobs began when I worked on a gypsy cob stud (before that I fancied myself a tb kind of girl) now I own 2 cobs, lovely manners but only because I taught them, they are not dopes on ropes they are super intelligent, they have to see the point of doing things for us, took me ages to convince my mare that cantering through a field is fun!

By a thoroughbred I have bolted with, i have been charged, kicked at, bitten and barged by Warmbloods. Not had a single problem with a cob.

I think it is all relative, there are good and bad in both, and you base your opinion on the ones you have met, neither is right nor wrong.

Rolling eyes because this isnt a thread asking for negatives of cobs, it's just a fun thread to share photos and fond memories of the hairy cows!

I am absolutely obsessed with gypsy cobs. When I worked for the RSPCA, it was often these beautiful horses and ponies that got the rough end of the stick (sometimes literally), yet they are so gentle, kind and fun.

Shy may not be built for speed, but he can jump, and we hack out for hours and just love it, especially when hubs and the dogs come with us - he chases the labrador

Everyone should own a cob at least once in their lives, and they'll get to see how fab they are..

I mentioned the name Indie around her a fair few times and every time she pointed her ears towards me, spun round and stared at me, so someone's obvs called her it before (her full name is Indian Angel!), and I prefer it to Angel
